Daycare to Reopen

Ok princess. When you can’t get food from the grocery store because the workers don’t have childcare, you’re going to be cool with that, right?

This woman has an axe to grind if anyone disagrees with her opinion of opening these covid 19-infested daycares

I’m not essential service employee, but if my daycare/preschool is open, I will send my kids there. It’s hell working with a 4 and 2 year old. The school does extensive cleaning and sanitizing and I will take my chance. If they are not open, they should not charge us. Simple.

I sympathize with the in home provider who posted and understand that she’s in a tough situation. She needs the money and so she stays open. Parents are not going to willingly pay her if she closes.

I'm willing to pay as long as they're open and I have the ability to send my child in if I need to. That said, I don't anticipate having to send my child in. I just like having the option and I'm willing to pay for it. We're both teleworking, and so far haven't needed to pay for childcare.

I mean, additional childcare.

You either want complete isolation or you don't.

Most people who are sending their kids to daycare are not terries of going to work, they are being told not to come into the office. Those that are terrified are in fact keeping kids home.

It seems that those who are sending their kids to daycare should be "allowed" to return to the office if they want to.

+1. Love this. Call OPM and tell them to reopen federal offices and we will see what everyone does!

The federal government isn't closed. Agencies are being told to allow the maximum number of people possible to telework.

Yes but they are still using daycare services while teleworking, which is extremely irresponsible. If they were forced to commute would they?

What's your evidence that we're using daycare services while teleworking?

I can't telework and am on an every other week schedule. This is my week off and my 3 year old is at home. Next week she'll have to go in.

Because I see my neighbor leave every day with her toddler and school aged child and then just come back with the school aged child to telework. It sounds like if she can telework she is not mission critical then? Can I report her to someone?

You should report yourself to a mental health hotline, lady.

No they don't. MD schools aren't licensed to accommodate kids under 3 years old.

Kids under 3 can’t follow the social distancing guidelines they’re asking childcare facilities to enforce anyway. In my opinion, children under 3 should be with a parent or relative right now if they have an essential worker parent.

And what are single parents who are essential workers supposed to do?

The lack of logical thinking on this board is galling sometimes.

Or kids of two essential workers. My moms neighbor back home is a firefighter in Los Angeles and his wife is a nurse at a major hospital--a lot of firefighters marry nurses, in nromal times they can stagger their shifts/schedules to be around for kids but now they can't. I also have a friend whose husband is military and she works as a home health nurse.

This is rare and can be dealt with on a case by case basis. Most, not all, but most children have two parents who share custody, even if they live in two different households.

How do you propose this happen on a case by case basis in teh middle of a crisis?

THINK logically, for the love of God.

How is it so hard for a center director or government official to verify?

It adds yet more process and burden in the middle of a crisis.

I'm not sure what you mean by this- so the parents decide which one of them is "more" essential while the other stays home? There's no one at the county "dealing" with these cases.

If somebody works in an office and can telework, or can take paid or unpaid leave, they’re not essential. Everyone is home with their kids right now. Literally everyone. Needing to work to make money does not make your position into an essential position.
