NP. A test would allow OP to know if she needs to quarantine for an extended time even once better. She would know whether she needs to advise people she’s been in close contact with over the last 2 weeks. People may be more willing to quarantine if they know they had exposure to a positive person than just someone with a vague fever. It would give us a better idea where possible clusters may be cropping up. I really don’t understand the idea that testing isn’t important if you’re being treated at home. |
Nobody has said they are okay with not knowing. They are responding to the many references to "treatment," as the nurse pointed out. There is a difference between "knowing" and "getting the treatment for it." Which sucks and is really unfair! |
I want to know if it is covid!! Knowing might not help OP much but if would help us all immensely. |
Contact your contacts and see if they are having symptoms and can be tested. If they won’t test you, maybe they can test them. |
"We have a simple message for all countries: Test, test, test."
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/03/16/who-says-some-nations-arent-running-enough-coronavirus-tests-test-every-suspected-case.html But yeah....I'm sure the lack of tests is no biggie... |
Tell the people in Italy being turned away so younger people can get treated with oxygen that’s in short supply that there’s no “treatment.” There is. It’s nota corona pill, but our system has to dole out oxygen. Italy is picking between people who have it, which is horrifying.
Op also said the post was mostly to tell people about the situation. Op is also scared. Give it a rest. |
I call troll. Canada’s response has been swift and appropriate. The numbers only began to rapidly escalate last Thursday. Before that, only 4-5 cases per day in Ontario or total of 50. But more cases started getting imported from the US due to travel in the last week. Once community spread seemed evident, more restrictions were put into place. I’m in Toronto and haven’t heard of people trying to get tests but unable. The only stupid thing is Trudeau closing borders to all except US citizens, even that’s where most cases are coming from now. That’s due to politics. |
No, PP was right. Canada's response was not swift and not accurate. |
Wrong. |
I had no idea until now what a hell hole Italy really is. |
Oxygen is not treatment for coronavirus. It is treatment for hypoxia. Hypoxia is something we can diagnose, and it can come from coronavirus, or pulmonary embolism, or pneumonia, or countless other reasons -- none of which require a positive COVID-19 test. And PP, I do not think oxygen is in short supply in Italy -- it's ventilators that are the limiting step, and they are being rationed. Knowing whether a patient needs a ventilator also does not require a positive COVID-19 test. Op has a right to be scared, and feel bad, and vent. Without doubt. This is also a very general public discussion at the beginning of a crisis which is quite literally unprecedented for us. It's important to be clear about what we demand, because we need as a group and a community to be focused on demanding things that are useful and can be provided. It's going to get ugly enough. |
No, same criteria but more locations to get the tests so more people asking for tests who don’t have symptoms of Covid-19. |
I might very well be wrong. It just doesn't make much sense to me how a husband can contract this virus and his wife who has been around him and breathing the same air comes up negative - like with Idris Elba and his wife. Also, last I saw, Florida has tested over 1000 people and over 800 of those tests came back negative. For such a contagious disease it sure doesn't seem that contagious based on those tests. Either there are false negatives, people have some sort of natural immunity to it here or it isn't as contagious as once thought. Maybe it's just not spread as easily in this country for some reason? |
Please cite evidence. |
This is how panic spreads. There is no oxygen shortage here or in Italy. Ventilators are limited but not every person who is hospitalized will need such intense supports. |
