OP--THERE IS NO TREATMENT!
If you have any reason to believe you have the virus (or any virus) isolate yourself from family members. That's all you can do. But there isn't any treatment. If you start to get short of breath then go to the ER and they will give your supportive care like oxygen and eventually a ventilator. Otherwise, there is nothing to do. Whether you are tested or not means nothing in terms of treatment. |
The us approval is slow and they want to develop their own tests. Korea used a recipe from The WHO and China and told their biggest labs/manufacturers they had approval to produce enough kits for everyone and the govt would buy it. |
Op isn’t saying there’s entitlement. The point is that there’s isn’t a way around. There isn’t a secret stash somewhere. |
+1 I get that you're worried but knowing or not knowing doesn't change what you should do, as getting positive results won't automatically get you a hospital bed. |
Guidance in Japan (which also doesn't have enough tests) until recently was self isolate and rest at home. If your fever does not go down in 48 hours, contact your healthcare provider. If you are in a high risk group, contact your healthcare provider if your fever does not go down in 24 hours. |
How can so many people not see the importance of tracking this disease? Even if you don’t care at all about people’s health, the economy is getting destroyed. Having information would help manage this at least somewhat competently. You guys are nuts. |
Our 80 year old neighbor was also told today at Fairfax Inova that there were NO tests available in Fairfax right now. |
I am so sorry, OP. It's horrible. I hope you recover quickly.
I really think you should contact the media. OP's situation aside, it is insanity that there STILL aren't tests. |
+1 |
OP, I completely understand your fear and frustration. DH actually managed to get a test last week but we still don’t have the results. It’s incredibly stressful and exhausting to be in limbo, feel like crap, and know you have people depending on you. Whether or not there’s anything you can do is beside the point.
I’m sending positive vibes and kindness to you and your family. It’s the least we can all do for one another right now. |
+1 It’s becoming clearer and clearer to me how we’ve ended up here.... |
Go in person to Hogans office or his next press conference and ask him what he thinks you should do. |
1. Quarantine yourself with a bedroom and bathroom. Do not touch stuff in the kitchen. Have someone hand you a plate. 2. Do not go in other parts of the house. Others must disinfect in the parts of the house where you've been prior to your quarantine in your room (partner has to move elsewhere). 3. Difficulty breathing: call ER before going there. 4. Contact WaPo - they want to hear from you! 5. Stay online. Stream funny movies. Read books. You will get through this. Best of luck, to you and to your family members. I understand your anguish and fear. Big virtual hugs to you. |
This quarantining is a significant burden, if you just have a generic virus and don't need to. |
Please read this slowly so that you understand. There. Are. Not. Enough. Tests. In. The. US. Where in that statement do you get that people don’t think the virus should be tracked? It should. But how do you plan on accurately tracking the virus without enough tests? Getting tested will not improve OP’s outcome. She needs to follow existing protocol and treat the symptoms. As multiple people have said. |
