Oxygen is not treatment for coronavirus. It is treatment for hypoxia. Hypoxia is something we can diagnose, and it can come from coronavirus, or pulmonary embolism, or pneumonia, or countless other reasons -- none of which require a positive COVID-19 test.

And PP, I do not think oxygen is in short supply in Italy -- it's ventilators that are the limiting step, and they are being rationed. Knowing whether a patient needs a ventilator also does not require a positive COVID-19 test.

Op has a right to be scared, and feel bad, and vent. Without doubt. This is also a very general public discussion at the beginning of a crisis which is quite literally unprecedented for us. It's important to be clear about what we demand, because we need as a group and a community to be focused on demanding things that are useful and can be provided. It's going to get ugly enough.[/quote]
