Rocky is a horrible nickname for anyone, let alone a little girl. If you're going to plan in advance to call her something like Rose that is only super tangentially related to the name, I would just pick something else.

NP. It's not odd if you know how the name should be said in German. Most people who have traveled will automatically say the name "Pee-tra" because that's how it's said in German.

I've traveled to Germany but I'm also fluent in Russian and so I would not pronounce it like pee at all.

My daughter is Petra and just after she was born my husband called her Pepper and it totally stuck, we all call her that now.

We love the name Petra and get infinite comments on it, though I'm sure there are others who don't like it and don't say anything but who cares.
