Numbers are projected to skyrocket after New Years and Christmas parties.

Will Northam pull off a Newsom in VA and make some clubs extinct in the Spring?

Northam is the worst governor this state has ever had.

Yes. Sports are not the problem. Keeping our kids engaged in sports is a good thing otherwise they would be pushing for house hang outs. The indoor playdates are the problem. I am not sure what the Governor wants. People need to understand that the death numbers are not all that they seem and someone needs to be honest. Most of these deaths are older people who could have died of other things but if you are COVID positive then it is listed as a death because COVID is a major contributing factor--you do not want to be old with co morbidities. Keeping these kids active is huge and they need it. And yes we don't go out anywhere but to drop off to sports practices and an weekly food pick up.

I am optimistic people will begin to see the numbers come down in this area by late February, and I hope they react accordingly. People have debated whether Europe or America are doing the right thing, or Germany or Sweden, or Florida vs the northeast, and what we have seen repeatedly is exactly what we saw a century ago. There will be ups and downs in terms of infection rates independently of what federal or state authorities will do. Rhode Island and NM have been among the most restrictive and have not been able to avoid serious spikes; Germany had the virus conquered. Until it didn't. The only countries able to contain it are geographically contained and isolated (or totalitarian or authoritarian). We will see spikes again in January and early February regardless of what the governments do. The question is how much activity that has almost no incremental impact should stop. When the most vulnerable people become more protected, infection is really a function of how much risk individuals want to take with their own lives given extremely low probabilities of serious illness.

Back in March of this year we were closing for two weeks to flatten curve. Cue the lols.

2021’s March will have WAAAAAAAAYYYY worse numbers. Will the pull off another closure? Some clubs have already said they’ll fold if that’s the case.

The difference is, by March we will be four months into a vaccine distribution with a majority of the most vulnerable vaccinated and the early vaccination of the more general population.

Yeah - but the numbers will be worse. Because we're testing everyone with tests that trigger on just about anything, double counting like crazy, and the 'flu has disappeared because we're counting all those as covid too now.

Bethesda Tournament was cancelled.

No, my daughter played in it. Boys was canceled the next weekend, yes.

Just writing a sympathy card to someone suffering through a COVID loss this holiday. No mask.

People are also catching it with masks in countries and states with mask mandates and restrictions. Unfortunately what gets lost in all the preposterous debate over masks is the importance of also social distancing when you wear them, which is lost on 80-90% of the public. And yet we know the mortality rate for this is lower than seasonal flu. Basically a 1 in 2000 chance of death if you catch it under 65. Life will go on, at least for most of us, and should.

They are probably having far fewer teams apply. The Jeff Cup is about making money period. The Covid cancellation guarantee is if cancelled 30 days from tournament they will refund. That's great for them but not for teams that don't control their own states guidelines on travel.

For a tournament to be successful during covid teams need protection that they will get a refund if they can't travel due to covid. Last year they "cancelled" the girls weekend and the showcases. They did not refund they rescheduled and if you were from a state that was not legally allowed to travel, tough luck they kept the money.
