Political, prisoners perhaps? |
That's great that they will allow testing now. Do we have test kits to actually do it? |

Two weeks ago, We’d Feb 19th, Italy only had three confirmed positives (people returning from Wuhan)
On Thursday, February 21, they tested the 38-year-old man who was in critical condition and found him positive. That set off a bunch of testing and cases exploded. They started completely shutting off a bunch of small towns. They close the schools in three provinces in the north. They took a lot of other measures. However cases keep spreading and intensive care’s are getting full. Today March 4 just two weeks after that 4th case was confirmed positive Italy has (as I predicted) closed all schools and universities in the country for (at least) 2 weeks. |
| I guess it's still a few weeks out, but anyone else wondering if Cherry Blossom Festival events will be cancelled? A couple of my family members are coming to do the 10 mile run and staying with us. Kind of glad I never got my act together to enter the lottery. |
It just depends when the widespread community transmission happens. If it hasn't happened by then they may still have it. If the virus is all around, I think they will cancel. They are already talking about the NCAA tournament not having any live spectators, and Pence is meeting with airline and cruise CEO's tomorrow. Stay tuned. |
At least some, yes. |
| Son of NYC patient has tested positive. |
Here’s an article on it. https://nypost.com/2020/03/04/coronavirus-in-ny-infected-westchester-county-mans-son-is-diagnosed-with-illness/ |

No. Pence is laying out the theory. In practice, there still aren't enough tests. Many people have asked to be tested and were not able to. This has been anecdotally recounted on these boards, and the NYT wrote an article a few days ago about doctors not being able to test suspect patients. The medical community is highly frustrated, because masks are saved (often locked up) to be used only in confirmed cases, and in the meantime the entire front line of doctors and nurses are exposed. This means they can infect any patient or staff or relative that comes into contact with them. This is how epidemics snowball. |
That’s the NY Murdoch Post. It’s not trustworthy. Murdoch has lost hundreds of millions of dollars on that paper over the decades for a reason. And it’s not because he’s donating money to us or to society. |
This is a new announcement and you're talking about last week. "On a call with reporters on Mar. 3, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the national center for immunization and respiratory diseases, said with the test kits the shipped, she expects state and local health labs to test as many as 75,000 people by the end of the week." https://time.com/5793605/coronavirus-testing-united-states/ |

This is the nightmare - the entire family sick, unclear if they are all hospitalized or if some need to fend for themselves while sick at home. The neighbor drove the dad to the hospital and caught it. So much for hoping neighbors will help out going forward... |
NYT says the family is being quarantined at home so they must be doing OK. Cuomo also announced that NY State Univ students returning from study abroad in affected countries would be quarantined when they returned and that the schools were readying dormitories for them. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/04/nyregion/coronavirus-nyc-yeshiva-university.html#click=https://t.co/E6fSttm5cg |
