When is your next planned travel & are you planning to go?

We just got back from France. Supposed to go to Longboat Key at the end of April. As of now, no plans to cancel. Will re-evaluate as it gets closer. May drive if flying doesn't seem like a good idea.

- we have as much of a chance of contracting the virus on an airplane or on vacation as we do when commuting, at work/school/the library/grocery store etc. etc. in our city;
- even if we were to get sick, we do not have compromised immune systems. If we can overcome the flu (and we all have, at least once the past 3 winters!), we should be able to get over this too.

If it virus becomes widespread and they stop quarantining people (as they may do) I agree with this. Especially for domestic travel. Does it really matter if I’m here or on the beach in FL?

We are planning to go in May. Not bought tickets yet. I hope your dad improves soon.

Chicago: next week: just me, Cancel (for variety of other reasons)

Raleigh/Durham: just me, work trip, following week, going.

NYC: just me, last week of March, going, although supposed to be attending a large conference.

Los Angeles: me and kids: second week of April, going (my mother's birthday, bringing the kids). a little worried about plane travel/kids/bringing my mom virus though ...wondering if I should fly into Long Beach rather than Lax. non refundable tix already purchased. also worried that if I take the kids and it turns out we are exposed, I will have to quarantine them and myself.....

Florida: end of April for wedding. still going. all of us.

July: colorado/arizona camping/Grand Canyon. still going. all of us.

of course, this is as of today, who knows what the next few months will bring.

Have you specifically asked about this? Interesting that they say it'll still be fine to go 5 weeks from now; how could they possibly know that? I'd understand if you were talking about this weekend or something. In any event, hope your drs. are right because I really want to get more own spring break trip because I feel like after this, it's going to be a no travel (or travel only in driveable distance) kind of year or no travel until the end of the year kind of year which stinks.

Yes I specifically asked about it. They all felt that it's not a particularly serious illness and the chances of contracting it are very small, and that as risks go, flu is much more serious. And for people in good health, not immunocompromised in any way, this isn't something to panic about. They had a lot to say about the media coverage of this, however!

Okay, then they are in conflict with pretty much every public health authority in the world that says this is more deadly and more contagious than the flu.

I realize this disproportionately isn’t affecting kids much but IDK kids have a way of coughing with mouths wide open and touching everything.

You do know kids are viral vectors. They are contracting and can pass it around. They just are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms—-but they can give it to adults.

Really? What will be the tipping/decision point? Literally if you feel like leaving for the airport at the scheduled time or kind of dread it? Keep us posted.

Yes, Spain has fewer cases than the US but Madrid went from 5 to 10 yesterday, and the person from Ecuador may have gotten it from Spain. No symptoms when he/she entered Ecuador on Feb 14, confirmed on Feb 29 as the first Ecuadorian with it.

New Orleans for spring break. We are going.

We have a family trip to Mexico for spring break and I have a work trip to Europe, too. Haven’t canceled either yet but will probably cancel both unless some really, really good news happens in next few weeks.

Part of me is saying YES go because this will continue to get worse and we'll look back and say -- we could've gone away in mid March when things were fine and we didn't (we don't vacation much -- it's been 13 months and we all REALLY want to get away). Precautions -- would fly into a smaller airport/go to a smaller city that is not known for tons of tourists from all over the world; outside of that -- just carry hand sanitizer I guess and don't touch faces.

If it helps, I *live* in Florida and am not planning not to live here during your planned vacation. I think you'll be ok here, too. I hope?

I have a conference planned in Orlando in March - driving there - and am planning to fly to see family up north in April. As yet I haven't considered canceling. My husband is flying to DC today for work. He said he wishes he didn't have to go - but he's giving a presentation tomorrow and there isn't really any sane way to cancel.
