| I have a kid at Pomona as well one who attended Wesleyan. There are plenty of talented artistic kids at Pomona but academics come first. Arts are more elevated at Wesleyan. Pomona doesn’t have grade inflation - kids have to work incredibly hard for an A. I doubt there is much crossover between Pomona and Davidson - both are fine schools but Pomona has no Greek Life or sports culture. |
Although (fun fact), Gregg Popovich coached the Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball from 1979 to 1988. He later coached the San Antonio Spurs to five NBA titles. |
| I got rejected from Pomona but got into Yale, Brown, and Columbia, but this was 20 years ago. |
Yield protection. |
| Well my kid just got pulled from a waitlist. Wow, unbelievable. Kid is thrilled. |
| Congratulations -they will love it. |
| Most kids I know from DC area who go to Pomona are recruited athletes. Problem is that class size is very small so after legacies, donors, URM, first gen, athletes, there are very few spots left. Divide remaining spots by 2 for males and females and it is impossible to get in as they also want geographic diversity + international students. |
My kid was regular. Just got off the WL. Must be more slots now because of internationals not showing up. Good year to be on a WL. Assume we gotta go. Apprehensive about sending her across the country. Still WL at an Ivy so we will see. Was going to a top 15ish SLAC with merit. But can't see a world where you turn down Pomona even full pay. |
Wow, congrats. Amazing school. |
Wow amazing. Pomona is as hard to get into as top tier Ivy League schools. With all due respect to your kid, don't know if this happens without COVID. |
Ha I was the Pomona poster...and not going to disagree...silver lining in Corona. |
| My DC is interested in Harvey Mudd which has a tech focus but also the fact that they can take classes at the other CMC schools. However, Pomona is ranked way higher than Harvey Mudd in several rankings.. Why is that? |
Largely because Pomona is a much richer school than Harvey Mudd. Rankings shouldn't be consequential though; Harvey Mudd is equally elite and highly respected by the STEM industry (perhaps more than any LAC actually). |
Would be interesting to know if waitlist moves come with financial aid. Or are these full-pay students? |
Pomona is a need-blind institution so it should keep those files separate. |
