Seriously, kids who are interested in/a good fit for Stanford and Harvard are not the same as kids who are interested in/a good fir for Pomona.
Pomona is a laid back* SLAC with small classes taught by professors committed to undergraduate education. * this doesn’t mean the work is not high level but the prevalence of “duck” syndrome is a lot lower at Pomona than Stanford |

Post 04/15/2021 18:32 I am not in Pomona. But I know for a fact that the cream-of-the-crop Pomona students transfer to ivies. Can you please provide more detail? Thanks. Like how many students. Which Ivies? What kind of grades? Do Ivies realize how hard and selective Pomona is, etc.? |
Just something I heard from my kid. She saw many transfer students from Pomona. It’s not an empirical study if that’s what you are asking. If you want stats, Pomona offers 93.2% graduation rate within 6 And 8 years. Presumably 6.8% dropped out or transferred. (This assumes Pomona’s stats is accurate. The 5 Claremont consortium has been banned by US News - not once, but twice - for doctoring it’s stats.) Compared this to Harvard’s 98% graduation rate. |
| Pomona and many other small liberal arts colleges are about fit. If you want a big campus where you can have anonymity, have access to Division I sports, Greek life, bar scene/nightlife, easy access to high-end shopping, relatively easy public transportation to an off-campus job or internship, Pomona, and many other similar colleges are not the type of school for you. But keep in mind the school's endowment per student is well over a million dollars and that provides a lot of interesting opportunities and resources for students. |
My kid is a junior and knows of two transfers since she's been there (and has a friend who transferred from Brown). |
Eh. Not really. |
Yes, but Pomona belongs to 5Cs. They were caught lying to US News to increase their ranking. These people know how to lie. Would you buy a used car from the Pomona people? |
| So I'm curious about whatever happened to the kid who got into Pomona off the waitlist and was also WL at Cornell. Where did the student wind up going? |
No dog in this fight but your comment caused me go look this up. It appear that it was one school, CMC, in 2012, and it came clean, the Administrator responsible resigned and CM put internal controls into place to ensure it would not happen again. |
