So Loudoun should stay in ECNL because of the performance of one team and Metro should lose DA over the performance of one team. |
PP here. I stated nothing about MU, their future, etc. Just providing context around the "biggest soccer club in Virginia has a losing record in ECNL" statement previously made. |
+1. And I think once they add 06s to that team, when they field the 07 and 08 teams, MU will have good teams for both. MU is building it right, and while we are tearing into MU's 06 age group, McLean's 06 team is terrible. ECNL diluted itself. |
And there is similar context around MU's/Spirit's poor start. Spirit started from scratch and Loudoun started with the largest Soccer Club in Virginia. Considering Loudoun's HUGE advantage of player pool, facilities etc, one would have thought that Loudoun would have fared far better than Metro. Arlington faced similar issues as Loudoun and yet they are a more than competitive DA 3 years later while Loudoun only has the 07's. Arlington lost players to former ECNL clubs FCV and McLean in the same way Loudoun did so how has Arlington shown such a dramatic improvement across all age groups while Loudoun has just been bad? |
|
And let's not forget Spirit was a total train wreck. They had some teams with almost 30 players. They would move players up to open up yet more roster spots for more players whether they should be there or not. It was all about subsidizing the first team. Then they dropped the program altogether.
George and Spencer saw within that mess a core of talented players that could build into a great club. Plus, the players prefer the DA model. |
| So MU has only been run right for half a year. If Spirit had run it right from the outset, we would be in a totally different place. |
Let me guess - your DD plays for Arlington U-15. And they ran into an MU team that beat team. One of only two losses this fall. Now you are hoping to see MU fail. |
DP. I think you misread his comment. He meant Loudoun can't use the FCV excuse and now ECNL status will save them. Maybe they have a good 07 team but that's not proof they are "fine" now. Arlington also faced the same problem but look how they recovered. So Loudoun may continue to have issues. My personal opinion is that Arlington benefited from DA status. DA will continue to gain traction over the ECNL, as it has across the nation. |
^^This sums up my point precisely. |
| Ok I misread. Thought it was the same Arlington PP going after MU from before. Yes DA is gaining traction over ECNL. No question. |
So with that in mind, why would US Soccer pull the plug now on Metro? |
Yeah, and while that is more apparent in the younger age groups, every team from 03 down has shown traction and improvement. The 03s tied Baltimore Armour, which is in second place in the conference. They played a team that may go the play offs in Florida, and didn't get scored on until the very last 5 minutes of the game. |
| My point being MU is showing US Soccer it is going in the right direction. And I personally like MU's efforts at smaller rosters. They have added PT players, as needed. That has been good for MU and also for the partner clubs and to buffer injuries. But there is a smaller. More focused core of FT players. |
Based on? |
DP. Based on the Midwest dropped its ECNL teams in favor of the DA this year, and. YNTs are heavily dominated by DA players. The U16 YNT has entirely all DA players for example. And quite frankly, it is a player centric model to have for example no more than two games in a row. The only thing propping up Virginia is the fact that the ECNL headquarters are here. |
