There is a slow talent trickle out of ECNL towards DA. DA will ultimately be the consistently stronger league over time. There will be pockets in ECNL based on region and perhaps a halo club like PDA but talent is beginning to trickle out of ECNL. |
At U16 and below I would agree. I think it's hard to say at U17 and above where ECNL retained the majority of local talent. |
I don't know about that. Every U17 DA team has picked up ECNL players, starting from year 1. Every year, it's a couple more. U19, definitely. It has what it has. |
Damn, what did I miss. Did someone get their panties in a twit? |
TWIST TWIST |
Ha, the post to which you are responding was simply a reaction to someone who indicated that that ECNL teams would be competitive with all DA teams; I was simply questioning the basis for that view given the absence of cross league play. I made no statement about how competitive I believe DA teams would be wrt to ECNL teams, despite whatever thoughts I have on that topic. |
lol. One cannot have it both ways. No sooner did I point out that the logic goes both ways, than someone (maybe you) posts their opinion that the average level in DA was greater! It's all opinion without actual games being played. |

In a he DMV for sure, you can’t make a blanket statement about the quality of DA vs ECNL because there’s such a disparity between the levels within each league. In DA, FCV is great, but Metro is only ok and Arlington is abysmal. In ECNL, McLean is generally solid, Loudoun and VDA (except for one age group that will probably split up soon) are not good, and is only good at the oldest age groups (and given the current group of coaches, will soon be below Loudoun).
So saying DA is better because 1 of the three DA clubs is the top in the area is a step too far and ignores how bad the other two are. And that club isn’t the top because of the league; it’s because it attracts the families who believe they have to be part of whatever is deemed the best, regardless of costs, abusive treatment of their kids, excessive activities to prove your commitment or the actual quality of the coaching. FCV’s move to DA recognized this need to feed their parents’ egos, as they couldn’t afford the suggestion they weren’t in the “best” league. |
| *BRYC is only good at the oldest age groups |
Yeah, 4 years BRYC had "BN" coaching for the young age groups, one coach for 4 age groups and with countless parent coaches.. go figure. |
Speaking of blanket statements - Arlington is abysmal? Really? The DA is the best league and the gap on the girls side is growing not shrinking as the oldest ecnl teams age out. Unless the girls do something stupid like the boys DA did and force even more ridiculous travel because of tiering, the GDA will remain the top league for the foreseeable future. I also think you will see something of the clubs like PDA come back to GDA in the near future. Because they know it’s the top league. |
BN is a great coach. He develops and recognizes proper age development. The club gave him 4 teams because he is the only one that can handle it. BRYC can not hire new coaches because the pay is low and reputation is dwindling. The club is starting to feel the loss of Larry Best. They are in desperate need of new leadership. At this point they’re a sinking ship with a few good players. |
| BRYC are strong where they need to be - recruiting age groups. They are putting players in college. That is ultimately what we as parents want. They were also in ECNL’s top 25 clubs which is a good indicator of a clubs overall strength. We play BRYC today. I would like to believe the sinking ship theory but the reality is far from that. |
+1 Put Players in College. That is all. |
That's all good and perfectly acceptable. The ultimate goal for most families is college. However, there was a time when all their teams were strong. That 03 team didn't just become strong. It's been that way for a while. And that's the concern with BRYC. Their younger teams aren't at the same level that these older teams were in years past. They even had U15 girls on YNTs. |
