It doesn't matter who the candidate is, if she doesn't support what they want, Republicans will turn over every stone they can to harrass her. If she does support what they want, and she does something bad, not only will Republicans leave her alone, they will run interference on anyone who tries to bring her to justice.

Omar's love pentagram would be as distasteful if she were a white woman from Connecticut as it is right now. And that she can get away with no answering legitimate questions about immigration fraud and campaign finance violations is much more concerning to me than how awful of a wife she appears to be.

I agree that her (potential) fraud invoking immigration reform and finance violations is more concerning,, but you are wrong about the meaning behind the hijab - and why her wearing of it shows her hypocrisy. The very word means "barrier," and it is associated with modesty (just like Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair).

I don't care about Ilhan's activities of any kind, but I did notice that she often does not wear a hijab but usually a headscarf or a head covering that does not cover the neck as the hijab does. I will also note that a colleague at an international organization who is a Somali lesbian wears a headscarf at work but not outside of work. The type of head covering and when to wear it may be situational.

I think I read that Omar has said that she started wearing it after 9/11. In her case, perhaps it is a political stand.

And, to first PP, many [upperclass wealthy urban] women in Iran never wore a hijab prior to the fall of the Shah. All must wear it now whether they wish to do so or not.

+1 from another Democrat. I am glad to hear it from one of her constituents, also. I know she won by not much in a crowded primary and would love to see someone else take her on. And I would welcome a House ethics committee investigation if the money angle of this warrants it, since the FEC is hobbled. Although maybe the prospect of the FCC investigating Omar would be enough to get Trump off of his duff and appoint some more commissioners?

Isn't this essentially what Nashville's mayor resigned for? I think she was also charged with something. Using campaign or tax dollars to fund her affair with a cop.

The issue seems to be whether the travel was part of his job or was purely romantic. It actually seems like harassment to me, since there's no real reason to think that he was paid for work properly until April but then improperly after that.

But if it turns out that he no longer was doing any work but was merely traveling romantically with her, then that's a problem. Only an ethical one, since we've apparently dismantled the FEC.

The curious thing to me is that for a year, they paid him a couple hundred thousand for consulting services. Then, beginning in April 2019, they started paying travel expenses. Seems fishy.
