Today just keeps getting better! That entire Board needs to be wiped clean, including Brabrand and his underlings.

What kind of person suggests it’s a good day of any sort, when it’s revealed that an elementary school teacher and her aide were abusing students, and that the principal apparently shrugged?

And Brabrand is the Superintendent, not a Board member. Do you even live in Fairfax County?

This is completely non-sensical.

The seclusion lawsuit has been out for awhile.
Not everyone knows. Think the OP explained that it was sarcasm.

According to a discussion on the FB page for the FCPS Special Education PTA, the deadline to add participants to the seclusion lawsuit was 2 days ago. It’s not a coincidence that this came out today

Do they have lock in closets at the ID centers or just the ED centers?

This is why you don't mix leadership from highly and low rated schools

Educators are mandatory reporters. How is the woman that told Bloom also not on trial? She instead took notes, videos,
Etc. Makes no sense.

Maybe because she knew nothing was happening and wanted to prove it? Who knows, but sounds like a blind eye was turned when she tried to report it before. Maybe he told her he was going to report it and never did, or asked her not to report it? He seemed shady.

He’s charged with failing to report abuse of students:

Do you still feel sorry for him, op?

I don’t!! They got a new principal and suddenly something was done about abuse happening starting in February... It was his professional responsibility to assure students were safe. Working with nonverbal students can certainly be challenging and if these were students who could have certain difficult behaviors then they probably should have each had a 1:1 aide. It’s VA so I’m sure 1:1 is rare, but I’ll tell you sometimes it’s just really needed.

Were these women not trained properly in how to manage certain behaviors? I’ve been a 1:1 and had to be CPI trained, which involved safe restraints we were trained to do when behaviors escalated (the point was to deescalate behavior before restraint would be needed though). Obviously slapping children, giving them bruises, pushing chairs into them is NOT how to handle any challenging behaviors. Ignoring it when you find out your employees are doing these things to students is also clearly what not to do... so they all deserve some punishment and should not work around children.

I don’t care how put together Bloom could pretend to be... Just look at all the threads mentioning his affair. Does not sound like a good role model for our kids.

My heart breaks for these kids who are NON-VERBAL -- suffering this abuse and probably just hurt and confused. Tormented at school.

To be so powerless -- it's hard to even comprehend how damaging it must have been to those kids who just had to take it.

This is where our focus should be.

The same goes for that child who was body slammed recently in the news. That middle school kids was so much smaller than the school officer who threw him into the floor hard. It's not the physical injuries that worry me... it's the fear and terror that the kid had to deal with as someone in authority dominated and assaulted him. That doesn't just go away when the bruises heal. And it doesn't go away when the lawyers make a deal for damages.

... That middle school Kid (not kids)....

Can someone explain how they haven’t fired Bloom yet? Like how is it that he’s still on payroll? Because he has a contract for this year? But doesn’t the contract provide a clause for potential misdemeanor? Wouldn’t that make sense? I just don’t understand how Brabrand’s zero tolerance policy isn’t kicking in on this already!

Haycock and Freedom Hill parents should start a petition to get him fired from FCPS!

Haycock parents deserve to know exactly what Fabio Zuluaga knew when he reassigned Bloom from Freedom Hill to Haycock. If he had any inkling that Bloom was the subject of a potential investigation, Zuluaga needs to be terminated as well.

Fabio so not a fan
