Freedom Hill principal going to Haycock

I think you meant “fare better.”

And it’s misleading to suggest “the parents” ousted the prior principal at Chesterbrook. He was there many years and was well-liked by most of “the parents.” There were a small number of vocal parents who had an issue with him and he decided to retire. Augie was there for one year and then the position was filled last summer.

Of course the Haycock parents would only accept a principal from another high-SES school! Let's see how long he lasts before they drive him out, too.

Have to agree. Speaking as a Haycock parent, the guy had multiple different meetings (at least three) discussing how he wanted a parent panel, parent input, etc...then they went and picked a new principal without ever consulting the parents or having the panel, as far as I know.

That being said, I'm aware he's not obligated to have one and doesn't owe it to us, but if this was his plan, why waste everyone's time pretending like it was going to happen?

I've said this to a few folks, he might be the nicest guy in the world, but when Fabio talks, I get the feeling I'm interacting with a used car salesman. Just the vibe he gives off.

Freedom Hill isn’t especially high SES (slightly below average FARMS at 27%) and what makes you think the Haycock parents had veto rights over his appointment? If you want to be snarky, it helps to have your facts right.

Let’s just say that being affable is more important to him than being honest.

Does any one know if there was a parent panel and who was on it?

They did have a parent panel with PTA parents.

Is he a good pickup for haycock? I saw one”not too fond of the guy” comment but nothing else...

He has a lot of experience as a principal— that alone suggests he will be head and shoulders above our last new principal.

That is also my assumption. Freedom Hill may be less intense than Haycock, but it has some challenges that Haycock does not have. If Bloom lasted seven years at a school near Tysons, he should keep things running more smoothly than Donnelly.

Too bad about Mr. Bloom. I liked him. There is an assistant principal - Josh DeSmyter. He’s been there since the spring at least.

What teachers are leaving? I know on 2nd grade teacher left.

FH parent here. I am more concerned about how good the incoming FH principal will be.

So the principal positions at Freedom Hill, Shrevewood and Timber Lane are all vacant right now?

Maybe talk to the PTA? We're a FH family but are moving out of state, so it won't affect us. If you know someone on the PTA I'd get in touch.

attack is the letter
"ES Community,

It is with an immense amount of emotion I inform you of my departure from FHES. This evening I was introduced as the new Principal of Haycock Elementary. Change is inevitable and, if you embrace it, you will be better for it. My last seven years serving as the Principal of this amazing school has kept my heart full for so many reasons. I have grown not only as an educator, but as a person because of being a part of this vibrant and supportive community. I leave FHES with nothing but optimism for the future because of the incredible people here – the children, families, and our staff.

I truly believe I am a better leader because of you and because of all the incredible support you have given me throughout the years; I am now and will forever be grateful for the positive impact that each one of you has had on me.

Region 2 Assistant Superintendent Fabio Zuluaga is working diligently to secure an interim Principal to launch the school year at FHES as well as expedite the process to find your next Principal. During this transition you will have an opportunity to provide feedback to Region 2 about the qualities you expect in your next Principal which will help guide the selection process.

I will still be supporting FHES over the next few weeks and knowing that we have incredible leaders on our staff brings me peace of mind. As I look forward to this new experience in my professional life, please know you all are responsible for the several wonderful and memorable chapters in my story.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the way you have embraced me over the last seven years as your Principal.

With gratitude,

Scott

Scott E. Bloom
