Agree. This happened before Covid even hit the US. Freedom Hill is the best!

Would it be over for you if it was your child.

Lol. Find a new hobby. It was one specific principal and one specific staff member, and only involved one or two disabled kids. Do you think the walls of Freedom Hill contain anti-disabled kid DNA in them?

DP. Do you ever listen to yourself? "Only involved one or two disabled kids"?

I'm sorry if you can't stand anything that you think might reflect adversely on Freedom Hill, but crimes were committed against and involving children at the school. Try to do better and, if you can't, just find some other threads to read.

DP. I have no connection to Freedom Hill or anyone involved in the situation, but I have worked in self-contained classes as an IA and will probably go back as a self-contained teacher at some point. This story absolutely should not "be over" because it will keep happening unless FCPS changes its policies. There needs to be much more accountability for staff in this type of classroom. FCPS should not allow people who have a random college degree and no degree in Special Education to teach the most high-needs, vulnerable students.

not really sure couldn't find anything on court records

He received a deferred disposition, it’s in the court records.

Mr. Bloom is a good man and a good educator, and it’s a shame this happened to him.

What exactly happened “to him” in your view?

FCPS has a shortage of IAs. This problem will get worse.

I was an IA for years and know that firsthand. There are several ways FCPS and surrounding districts could address this problem. We have given suggestions to the School Board, our admins, and the superintendent. Crickets, every single time.

You sound like a Trumper if it doesn't affect me I don't care...grow up and find some empathy.

Quite possibly Brabrand's only skill as superintendent was to get school-based administrators accused of complicity in misconduct removed ASAP. I can think of at least five such instances off the top of my head and there were undoubtedly others. Some of these individuals may have stayed on the FCPS payroll while the matters were pending, but he removed them from day-to-day interaction with students and staff.

FCPS is a massive organization. If there were only 5 during his tenure, that really “ain’t bad”

I know who you're talking about, and I think that is a huge reach.

Lol he hasn’t worked at FHES in over 3 years. Get lost

He was there when this happened.

And he knew what was happening and failed to report it as he was required by law. This man is no saint. Nothing happened “to” him. He chose to ignore child abuse. There is a special place in hell for this man.

This is the best argument why special ed kids should have their own separate schools. Integration was a colossal mistake for numerous reasons

The infrastructure is already there if we remove AAP centers, which are totally unnecessary while special ed programs are absolutely necessary.

Parents whose kids score above 132 or close to it generally want their kids in separate centers, or at least grouped with other students who score similarly. Parents whose kids score below 70 do not.

Help me understand. How does segregating special education students prevent abuse?

There's something to be said for having an onsite BIT and/or BCBA in the building at all times. Usually these people are spread pretty thin between multiple schools and centers. Same with SPED teachers assigned to multiple classes or grade levels. If you want to ensure that treatment plans are carried out with fidelity and that staff are given intensive, continued training to work with high needs students, this is not the way.
