Sad songs say so much.

What does it say about me that I love be almost every one of these songs? And the singers who died too young like Harry Chapin and Dan Fogelburg, make them only more poignant.

Anonymous wrote:Maybe not your genre, but I can think of a couple of favorites:

Keane ‘somewhere only we know’: “if you have a minute why don’t we go Talk about it somewhere only we know.” Its the way he sings it.

And Radiohead ‘high and dry’: the entire song is so gloriously emotional. Even the guitar cries and whines a little bit

Always fleetwood mac’s ‘Landslide’

Always.

A girl sang this at our high school graduation and there was not one dry eye. So beautiful.

Thank you, OP. I needed this thread tonight. My dad just started hospice care, and I’m at his bedside at my childhood home. Sad songs are cathartic for me, and I’m crying in a good way.

Love all the suggestions (esp. the Bread song!), and here are some of mine to add:

So Quiet - Nik Kershaw
Snowbound - Genesis
Ripples - Genesis
Space Oddity - David Bowie
She’s Leaving Home - Beatles
Suite Madame Blue - Styx
Man in the Wilderness - Styx
Wild West Hero - ELO

The Luckiest - Ben Folds
And most of Foo Fighters breaks my heart in a good way.
