80 seats were offered in the lottery for prek3 and 96 for pre-k 4, is that what you mean by expansion

Did anyone go to the play date yesterday?

All those seats were offered in the lottery. If you are on the waitlist, it’s a true waitlist like all the other schools.

Of course it was ... how else would all these people be admitted? Look at the seats offered grid

Is anyone leaving a school they currently really like to enroll in the new MV8 and why? ..... I'm Assuming the bulk of the pk4/k kids that got accepted at MV8 went somewhere else for PK3/pk4...

Leaving Bethune. We had a great pre-K 3 year but want immersion.

Leaving SSMA non-immersion for pk4. Hoping to stay at MV8th for a while-- I am really looking forward to the shorter commute.

We are having an incredibly hard time making a decision about whether to switch from our IB DCPS. We really like the school we are at and it is closer to our house.

We passed it up in favor of Langley (our IB). Just could not give up the walking commute in favor of something so new and all the lumps and bumps of a new campus, plus the likelihood of having the same teacher two years in a row at Langley. I'm disinclined to shuffle from school to school and without the DCI guarantee, MV 8th would not be our long-term solution either.

I'm right there with you! I'm having a hard time with this too. I did the drive yesterday and the commute is a really big con!

Exactly. It's a question of how you want to spend you and your child's time. Walking to school is SUCH a nice part of the day, even a short car commute cannot compare. And then looking for parking, and walking from parking, and walking back to whereever you parked... and if you have a baby or (even worse) a toddler to de-carseat and bring with you as well... no thanks.

We are leaving a school we like. We wanted language immersion, specifically Spanish, and a potential long term track to middle and high school. Granted it’s not guaranteed but 60-80% chance is much better than none. Our inbound middle and high school are not options. We also like the fact that it’s an IB program in middle and high school. In addition if DCI expands in the future then chances are even higher. We are not interested in moving WOTP or to the burbs.

Us too! It's a really tough choice. We love MV's curriculum and would really like to give the school a shot! The commute would be tough but not impossible. It's only 12 minutes by car but the wrong way from work so it feels way more brutal. Our IB DCPS is a dream location. I will be happy either way but seriously don't know what we'll decide. It feels like it would be a sacrifice to make MV8 work. But we are grateful to have the choice this year.

We are in the opposite boat - MV8 is a dream commute but we already are at another charter school we really like. No idea what to do.

Did anyone actually enroll? If so how long did it take MySchoolDC to indicate "enrolled?"
