Pk3, inbound is Noyes

Stokes Spanish Brookland
Mundo Verde 8th St
DC Bilingual
Lee Montessori
Inspired Teaching
Bethune Brookland
CMI
SSMA
Burroughs
Langdon Montessori
Langdon Elementary
Noyes

We’re also IB for Noyes. After visiting, we dropped a number of the schools you have listed off our list. Bethune, for example - totally disorganized and gave conflicting info about some of the basics. Was very impressed by Noyes principal and don’t feel like we need to avoid it all costs. I’m curious about your ranking - priority language? Or Montessori? Or tier/star score? I’m not seeing a pattern. Have you visited everywhere?

FWIW, here’s our current thinking-

Inspired
Lee (most likely, still on the fence about Montessori)
Burroughs
Langdon ES
Noyes

I have not visited all of these yet, still working through the open houses so this list will probably change. I must have visited Bethune on a good day because I was impressed with the staff and liked the classrooms. I still need to visit Noyes, but have only heard good things lately so I am happy about that.

As far as ranking, I like language immersion if we can get in for prek3. I know it’s completely different, but I also really like Montessori for early childhood education and I think my child would be fine in any of these schools. Location is a big factor for me. Ideally I’d like to be able to walk to the school. DCB and CMI are on the way to work.

Did you like Burroughs and Langdon more than Noyes?

Make sure to enter LAMB separate lottery then.

Bethune is dual language.

Is that the only option? When you go to the lottery site, it is the only dual language program that I've seen that doesn't have a disclaimer.

From their website: "half day language immersion program for primary grade students in prekindergarten through second grade."

Would you look at my Kindergarten list? Currently Prek4 at Seaton and loving it, but worried about the higher grades and also about attrition of all his friends this year. Would be open to staying, though.

1. ITS
2. Eaton (we would move to be closer if we got in)
3. Mundo Verde - P Street (but honestly I have a lot of reservations about the school (teachers/rigor/playground) and I don't know if I would accept.

Thanks!

We left ITS for MV. Hands down would recommend ITS over MV for its communication with parents, the overall consistency of the quality of teachers, and the active, engaged school community.

We have friends still at MV- who would consider moving if they didn't mortgages and homes. Some issues have improved, but with the new campus introduction, expect and brace yourself for chaos.

If you prioritize immersion, consider moving into Woodley Park or Mt. Pleasant.

Thanks. It’s one of three I haven’t visited yet. I picked it based on location mostly. Any other feedback on order etc?

I am not a fan. Disorganized and their willingness to admit kids too young for other schools pulls down the average age of the class. If you really don't care about immersion, look at Langley or Seaton instead.

PP, can you say more? We are at ITS and like it okay but still interested in immersion. But the reported disorganization of MV puts me off. How does it impact your child?

Thanks so much for this! This matches what I have gleaned from parents at both ITS and MV (the ITS parents are much more unambiguously positive).

We are also very strongly considering moving to mount p to attend Bancroft.

Now that Bethune is in the common lottery they do not admit younger kids

Not everyone likes Hearst.

The true Swami doesn't emerge until after the application deadline. She makes crystal ball predictions.
