Is Boston College a rich kid school?

BC has no fraternities, absolutely no greek system whatsoever, whether official or unofficial. However, it does have Division 1 sports.

Most Boston area schools do not have Greek life on campus, for liability reasons. I don't expect too many people in this area to know the facts about this kind of thing.

In addition, for those people here who think that expensive schools have mostly full pay, they do - that doesn't mean that they are inferior schools in any way - on the contrary. Get out of your bubble a little and learn something.

We’ve all read the horrors that happen at Penn State
.

What does that have to do with B.C. and OP's question?

Knowing the facts about what it means to have Greek life on campus... see bolded above.
Or - never mind go back under your rock.

Perhaps, but Georgetown is in a different league from Notre Dame and BC. Miles above.

You're joking right? Do you know where ND is ranked in comparison to Georgetown? Apparently not. And besides the ranking, I can name many reasons why ND is a better school than Georgetown.

You are incorrect; further, you protest too much. Georgetown is a more prestigious, selective, and better school than ND by every single metric.

Agree--Not to mention the huge chasm in name recognition, plus who in their right mind would choose Podunk Indiana over DC (and all the attendant clerkship opportunities, cultural activities, food, and proximity to similar opportunities)? Not even a gray area.

+1, I think people are trolling. GU compared to ND? Give me a break.

I’m not a fan of ND but the GU campus is a dump and ND offers a very unique , close college experience to their students.
Indiana does suck but the school is fabulous.

Also, ND is ranked 18 & Georgetown 22. Hmmmm:

This exactly. DS looked at both of these schools. Was surprised how much he disliked Georgetown. Mainly he said he did not like the campus...too cramped, not enough green space, etc. etc. A huge difference from ND, which is just a gorgeous campus. I agree that South Bend leaves a lot to be desired, but the fact that ND is still ranked so high in such a unfavorable location says a lot. The school has so much to offer and more.

Why do you feel the need to bash a school just because it is a poor fit for your kid? My DS loved BC, but he hated BU. Every kid has their preferences and list of things they want in a school. Clearly BC is not the right fit for your kid. Frankly, we like the fact that there are so many Catholic markers around the school. For DS it gave him comfort. Sorry you can't find that in a school because there are no Jewish schools. Perhaps there is some jealousy on your part that there is no school designated for your particular faith?

Whoa. That was really nasty. And reflective of a very insular worldview, as in fact there are lots of schools in the US with a large Jewish cultural tradition and student presence: Brandeis, Tufts, Tulane, Emory, Duke (and those are just the ones that come to mind off the top of my head). Just as there are lots of schools with Presbyterian, Methodist, or Quaker roots.

Didn't say that there was no student presence...just that there are not schools specifically designated as "Jewish" as opposed to "Catholic." Get it?

Regis in NY

Just FYI, Regis is an all-scholarship school, i.e., it's free. You do have to pay a couple of hundred dollars in fees for various things, but even these can be waived. In admissions, it gives a preference to boys from less affluent families. https://www.regis.org/section/?ID=1 So, the fact that Regis sends students to BC certainly doesn't support the argument that it's an UMC kind of place!

BC has a great location and is less Catholic than ND. All three schools are great but they all appeal to different students for different reasons.

The kids skew preppy in style (early JCrew adopters, for example) , whether they go to public schools, Catholic schools, or independent day or boarding schools. When I went to HS in the 80s, the smartest and nicest kids in my parish who really wanted a Catholic college went to Notre Dame. Georgetown was less selective (I say this as the daughter and sister of alums) and BC even more so. Georgetown became more selective in the late 80s and 90s, partly because President Clinton was an alum, partly because of the Hoyas' basketball dominance, and partly because of St. Elmo's Fire (I'm only sort of joking about the latter).

A lot has changed since then. BC has become more selective, though it's still more provincial than Georgetown, which draws many more non-Catholics and international students. My own kids attend/ed a secular independent school in DC and every year a few kids go to Georgetown and BC -- though I can't recall a single one going to Notre Dame. That's certainly due in large part to Notre Dame's location, but also to its culture, which has always seemed more Catholic (chapels in every dorm) and, in particular, more focused on social justice Catholicism. I'm a lawyer and I'm always impressed by how many lawyers who went to Notre Dame are very active in pro bono work.

BC is not provincial. That is just an obnoxious thing to say.

That is because literally every Catholic kid and many other kids in the mid-west apply to ND.

They are essentially equal.

That's because BC and GT are Jesuit.

Well, apparently a lot of people. Notre Dame's yield is 55.4%, while Georgetown's is 47.4%.

Georgetown's endowment is $1.66B while Notre Dame's is $13.1B. And Georgetown's enrollment is actually larger.

Wasn't it GU in the late 80s/early 90s who let in literally illiterate kids to play basketball? GU lost it's identity.

I think currently ND and BC are superior colleges. I was told the feel of GU is a school that is struggling financially; as in they can't afford building upkeep.

Georgetown undergraduate enrollment = 7,463

Notre Dame undergraduate enrollment = 8,576
