He doesn't sound very "laid back" to me. Why wouldn't a Catholic college have Catholic landmarks???

This. The Jews go to BU, not BC.

It's called BJew, and lots of JAPS there from east coast. That said, there are still more Catholics at BU than Jews but they're not in everyone's face about it.

A kid who is “turned off” by the fact that a Catholic college has ...gasp ... Catholic landmarks sounds not very laid back to me.

And BC does not have frats or sororities, so check your facts.

I already said I made a mistake...calm down. And yes the school feels very conservative and uptight..we are new to MA so were not sure what to expect and yes BU a million times better. Even our student guide was stiff and "fake". And yes he is laid back but felt uncomfortable there, what does not make sense? Have you been there? If you have then you would understand what I mean.

your kid is not laid back. sorry.

he's not inclusive enough to go to a school and hang out with people not from his religion or ethnicity. focus on universal values not your bloodline religion differences.

Why do you feel the need to bash a school just because it is a poor fit for your kid? My DS loved BC, but he hated BU. Every kid has their preferences and list of things they want in a school. Clearly BC is not the right fit for your kid. Frankly, we like the fact that there are so many Catholic markers around the school. For DS it gave him comfort. Sorry you can't find that in a school because there are no Jewish schools. Perhaps there is some jealousy on your part that there is no school designated for your particular faith?

Whoa. That was really nasty. And reflective of a very insular worldview, as in fact there are lots of schools in the US with a large Jewish cultural tradition and student presence: Brandeis, Tufts, Tulane, Emory, Duke (and those are just the ones that come to mind off the top of my head). Just as there are lots of schools with Presbyterian, Methodist, or Quaker roots.

what are you talking about? yes there are schools that are 25-30% jewish. which also means they are 75-80% non-jewish. no one really cares, except you. hmmm.

BC is fun, safe, outside the city... quick ride on the T to Boston.

Most people I know that go there are rich Catholics.

Perhaps, but Georgetown is in a different league from Notre Dame and BC. Miles above.

You're joking right? Do you know where ND is ranked in comparison to Georgetown? Apparently not. And besides the ranking, I can name many reasons why ND is a better school than Georgetown.

You are incorrect; further, you protest too much. Georgetown is a more prestigious, selective, and better school than ND by every single metric.

Agree--Not to mention the huge chasm in name recognition, plus who in their right mind would choose Podunk Indiana over DC (and all the attendant clerkship opportunities, cultural activities, food, and proximity to similar opportunities)? Not even a gray area.

Well, apparently a lot of people. Notre Dame's yield is 55.4%, while Georgetown's is 47.4%.

Georgetown's endowment is $1.66B while Notre Dame's is $13.1B. And Georgetown's enrollment is actually larger.

Holy crap. That’s pretty stark.

Notre Dame's endowment is truly big league, higher than half of the Ivy League schools and higher than Duke, Wash U, Chicago, JHU, etc. Georgetown's endowment is more like a small liberal arts college. There's simply no comparison between the two.

Good point. Difference is striking. And plenty of small LACs with bigger endowments per student than Georgetown. Some even bigger than ND’s.

Pretty much every selective LAC has an endowment per student than is multiple times larger than Georgetown’s...which begs the question of why is Georgetown’s endowment so low?

intl alum don't donate. unless truly loaded and trying to get their kid in 30 years later.

There are a LOT of schools that have as many or more international students as GU yet still have significantly higher endowment per student - URochester, Mount Holyoke, Brandeis, Emory, Case Western, Penn, Uchicago, St Johns College, Bryn Mawr, Earlham, Grinnell, Knox, Claremont McKenna, Macalester, Smith, College of Wooster, the list goes on. So that can’t be it.
