Drama queen. John Roberts & Samuel Alito weren’t accused of such things. Wiith Thomas & Kavanaugh, it may be that they haven’t behaved respectfully toward women.

Not every male has a #metoo past. In fact, I would bet there is a pro-life judge out there somewhere who has more honor in his pinky nail than Kavanuagh. If that is the goal, find him and nominate him. We shoudn't be further eroding our instititution and especially the Supreme Court, any further.

+1. Even evil Mitch McConnell warned Trump against Kavanaugh.

He should be jailed. He should have to give up custody of his daughters too. If his wife defends him the kids need to go into foster care.

No rush to judgment here....

Is there a source for this? I tried looking it up, but all I could find is that the victim has twenty years to file a charge for sexual assault after she turns 18.

Get going, conservative ladies!

She’s not a liar, she’s an opportunist.

She wasn’t promiscuous, she was stupid for not having Kavanaugh charged at the time

She’s not mentally, she’s culpable for not taking a sexual predator out of society years ago.

She didn’t report it earlier, because it was an incident that routinely occurred to her and most other attractive women.

She only came forward because someone dredged her up.

Classic ploy

She’s just the sucker who fell for the bait.

An interesting twist on the liar-promiscuous-crazy strategy! You show real promise.

but re: she’s culpable for not taking a sexual predator out of society years ago. [i] See me after class.

What happens from years as a prosecutor. We know this type very well.

I don’t recall Gorsuch having a MeToo problem.

Or maybe men can stop harassing and raping women.

Nominate a woman.

If a Republican woman is in denial about her place in society in the minds of Republican men, now might be a good time for her to wake up. Statistically speaking, they were and are just as likely to have been sexually assaulted, although I think they seem more likely to have fully internalized the blame and to have submerged the experience.

No matter how well women behave, to GOP men, women aren’t fully human. They’re objects.

I agree with you, but I don't think GOP men are the only ones who think this way. I know plenty of male liberal Democrats who treat women like objects. They vote differently, but their disrespect for women is nearly identical, especially when drunk.

That’s a fair point. But I think that a group that so disbelieves women, hurries to strip women of their rights, has openly discussed disenfranchising women, and generally doesn’t think sexual assault is a big deal (I give you Jim Jordan still in office. I give you Donald “Grab em” Trump), a group thatsubscribes to patriarchal views of society and genuinely think that women should not be in the public sphere is far, far more toxic.

The victim was a sophomore so she wasn’t 18.

Two things can be true at the same time. This incident could have happened as described, AND those 65 women could have had respectful interactions with Kavanaugh.

AND it may not have happened as described

In context of 1982-1983, this wouldn't really be possible. But you know that.

You mean there were no laws against sexual assault in 1982-1883?

The laws weren’t enforced very well, and victims of sexual assault were treated worse than victims of other crimes.

Drunk driving was also prosecuted differently then than it is now. Times change.

I don’t know what I actually expected coming to DCUM after this revelation, but I’m still disappointed that such a credible accusation has people thinking “something is fishy” and that this person is seeking 15mins of fame.

I, like others in this thread, have been sexually assaulted and told pretty much no one. Those couple I have told I did so in confidence and they would never tel anyone. FWIW, each of them had histories and experiences with sexual assault and/or abuse. Those who find this scenario unlike seem to (fortunately for them) know very little about about rape and sexual assault.

Even the White House is not standing by Kavanaugh. They provided "no comment" - normally, they would reaffirm support and claim the nominee did nothing wrong.

So if Trump isn't standing by him, why is anyone here standing by him?

Because misogyny is a sport to some of these folks who, if they didn’t have hatred to hold them up, would have nothing at all.

Not an official statement, but per Politico:

A lawyer close to the White House said the nomination will not be withdrawn. “No way, not even a hint of it. If anything, it’s the opposite. If somebody can be brought down by accusations like this, then you, me, every man certainly should be worried.”

Ok, so the suggestion is, every man has done this. Uh, no. Only in GOP Trump World is this the case.
