MCPS bus driver arrest

So here’s the thing: when our school had a centrally developed presentation for the students about bodily safety, there were numerous parents who wanted their kids opted out. Two moms picked their kids up before the presentation, took them out for Chick-Fil-A and returned them afterwards.

The schools need parents to partner with us, not undermine efforts to let kids know what grooming is and how to get help.

But sometimes they do get reports but the administration doesn't do anything. Like the after care provider for Kids Adventures who was arrested. Apparently there were complaints several years before it happened and the old principal ignored them.

When you say “us,”are you an administrator or someone in central or HR? Because if you are, I work for the county too and know there are teachers working who’ve been convicted of domestic violence and all kinds of things even in the past year, and they don’t ever seem to lose their job. Please change that if you have any authority. It ruins morale for the rest of us and it’s terrible for kids.

I work for the county too and have a colleague who doesn’t seem to have lost their job despite getting a domestic violence conviction. It’s disgusting. I’ve started checking that public case search for alll my kid’s teachers in the county, and you wouldn’t believe the stuff I turn up. Half the problem isn’t that HR doesn’t know, it’s that they don’t consider some godawful behavior to be fireable offenses.

I highly doubt a false accusation in this case. The footage has already been reviewed and he is still being held. An attack on a child doesn’t have to be broadcast to dispel your MRA fantasies.

The article says the camera recorded the assault. What other proof do you need? A vulnerable special needs girl raped and the poster thinking it might be false? This was not the first one. This guy has done it before.

You think child molesters leave finger prints on their victims? They leave marks, but not that kind.

Most kids are molested by someone they know really well. Like this “Mr. Steve” or their coach or an uncle. If molesters left prints that police lifted, they would have been charged because the standard response is “I never touched that kid. Why is he lying?”.

I am saying there could be administrators who hire bus transportation managers with enough brains not to put the 62 year old man with a lazy eye on the disabled kids bus route.

Society has managed to get away with all sorts of bias despite written policy for eons.

Hire smarter, savvier bosses.
In the end, it's on us-the voters- not to allow morons to run our schools.

So most men are okay, but 62-year old cross-eyed men should be limited to only driving normal kids. Because hey, we discriminate anyway, so lets limit our $35,000/year jobs driving screaming children around to people with perfect facial features. And that's the smart way? You were doing better with the no men allowed policy.

+1000 - HR doesn't think the violations of the MCPS Employee Code of Conduct are fireable offenses until news is breaking of the arrest. I would suppose the domestic violence conviction did not make the evening news.

Sexual violence of this magnitude against a child needs the atmosphere of secrecy and privacy for the predator to attempt the act. In the MCPS Code of Conduct, it specifically uses the example that a teacher should not be alone with a student in a locked classroom or a classroom with the lights off with a child. How is being alone on a school bus with a child any different? Same for employees who put students alone with them in a car and drive them off campus. MCPS should take known offenses of these policies seriously. Prevention means that these types of offenses are one strike and you are out policies which thus far is not the case in MCPS.

In this particular situation, the aide should have remain with the bus at all times. The parent / caregiver of the child should come to the bus to get the child. Period. No exceptions. All aides and bus drivers with special needs children should know this by now with the retraining MCPS says has taken place. If not, a memo and mandatory meeting of all bus drivers and aides is urgently needed. Parents / caregivers should also be informed that they are required to come to the bus to get the child. There are MCPS procedures for when a parent / caregiver is not at a bus stop on time that the bus driver should follow.

I reported a teacher who took my son alone to lunch in his car. Unfortunately my child did not have the benefit of a camera in this teacher's car. MCPS thus far has kept this teacher working with students.

He’s never been arrested before in Maryland. Most sex abusers don’t have records. There are cameras all over that bus. What they should do is implement a policy of regular review of the tapes.
