Interesting. |
| Child predators come in all colors. They can be spotted based on grooming behaviors used to isolate children. Being alone with a child in a vehicle should be taken seriously and would be disturbing if MCPS fails to terminate employment. MCPS should be investigated if they apply different standards of discipline based on race, gender, or any other protected status. |
We know different standards were applied for students. Not surprising if it extended to employees. |

Superintendent Smith to Address Recent Arrest of Special Education Bus Driver August 22nd at 7 PM
Wednesday, August 22, 2018 Carver Educational Services Center (CESC) 850 Hungerford Drive Rockville, MD 20850 The meeting will be in the CESC auditorium, from 7:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m. • Spanish and Sign Language interpretation is available • If you require other interpreting services, contact Jennifer_R_Strouble@mcpsmd. org |
| I hope the Superintendent addresses the issue in the plural sense. How many arrests need to he made before the Superintendent makes child safety a priority and he does more to prevent child abuse by MCPS employees? Until he reacts to violations of the MCPS Employee Code of Conduct, all MCPS students are bait for the predators lurking for the opportunity to isolate a child. |
Arrests signal better detection and reporting are occurring. |
|
Arrests signal a child or in some cases multiple children being sexually abused. To say that the increased arrests is enough is the same as,saying arresting school shooters after they had shot students and staff is enough action.
Security means taking steps to prevent criminal activity and proactively protecting students. |
Never said enough. Saying it’s a sign the process is working. |
Another rape of a MCPS student is a sign that the system is still broken. The rape was preventable. The aide should have stayed with the bus. For every reported case, Dr. Smith should be examining what could MCPS do to make the school system safer. |
| Enforcing the MCPS Employee Code of Conduct would be progress. Compliance and Dr. Smith know of many cases where serious offenses have occurred but did not fire the employee. This keeps questionable employees in contact with students. |
| The report of the rape wasn't the credit of MCPS. It was the student who drew a picture of the attack which prompted the bus video to be reviewed. There wouldn't probably be an arrest without the video corroborating what the student reported. |
Oh wow! I didn’t see that the victim drew a picture. That sounds heartbreaking. Glad that someone followed up on the picture. |
How do you know he isn’t? |
| The school system isn't safer and students are in vehicles alone with staff. That tells me Dr. Smith is only reacting to arrests versus implementing plans to improve security for all students |
Why aren’t MCPS programs for kids with significant disabilities inclusive. Every incident of child sex abuse I know about on a bus has been on a segregated bus taking kids to segregated settings away from their neighborhoods. |
