There are specific programs for students with significant disabilities. If they just went to their neighborhood school there might be only 1 or 2 or 3 students, each with vastly different programmatic needs. So, different schools are designated for different programs, and multiple students are gathered from surrounding schools to attend that program. https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/special-education/revised17-18%20Special%20Education%20Program%20Descriptions%20and%20Services%20Locations.pdf |
Research has overwhelmingly shown that these programs do not meet kids’ needs, and that kids learn better in natural ratios in inclusive environments. Kids are also safer in natural ratios in inclusive environments. |
+1000 Please attend the meeting next week of the Special Education Advisory Committee. It is a shame that Dr. Smith breaks out groups when child abuse occurs - Cloverly Elementary and now the Special Needs families - like child safety isn't an equal concern of all parents. Children should be educated in the least restrictive environment. My child for a whole school year was on a bus with one driver for an hour and no other kids when there was a closer school I could have driven him to daily. Isolating children in this manner is not safe. |
