I agree. Each dual-language DCPS that doesn't have a monolingual track should have a choice-set, ideally with a desirable monolingual school. If Tyler goes 100% dual-language, Brent should be Tyler's. |

Another perspective on the three most important second languages for kids to learn to be most successful (in Britain)-German, French and Mandarin. I wish DCPS or a charter school offered german. |
At best, German is the 11th most spoken language worldwide. There are many other languages that would be more opportunistic for the DC population. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_number_of_native_speakers |
Grüne Bohnen PCS! |
Then I suggest you get in touch with your Hill neighbors at Tyler to discuss what they're doing. Naming Brent as the Tyler English-only path makes a lot of sense. They could just get rid of Brent PK altogether. |
Huh, why should what Brent parents want matter more than what Tyler parents want? |
The choice set for dual language schools makes a lot of sense. |
Making all dual-language schools city-wide programs, like Montessori and SWS, makes even more sense. |
^^ but adding yet another city-wide school to Ward 6 does NOT make sense! |
Agree. Put one in Ward 7 and another in Ward 8. |
You’re showing your ignorance of dual language immersion. The children are taught in BOTH languages. |
Ok - so only HALF of the staff would have to leave. |
Nice try. Tyler is 75% OOB. Those parents know how to use the school lottery. |
Lady, this is Tyler. They already have a spanish immersion program!!! You are being histrionic. |
So many posters on here are dismissing rational and deep concerns that the parents in the arts program are expressing. What you aren't hearing is that they value a more structured, English-proficiency based education for specific reasons. These are a different set of values and equally worthy. I'm cringing at the "white-splaining" going on here. Just for the record, I'm high-SES, married, educated and still find the inability of the DL proponents here tone-deaf. |
