Yes, I've seen this undertone in a couple of other posts.....that the antisemitism isn't the main cause for concern, but rather the stupidity. If a Republican made a stupid anti-black comment, liberals would be up in arms if conservatives said, basically, "well, I'd like to see him removed for stupidity, not for anything he said against blacks." It's the undertone I've mentioned previously.....that among some liberals, there's a willingness to look the other way when antisemitisim rears it's ugly head among Democrats. |
In this case, yeah. I mean its evidently okay for Mike Pence to be anti-gay since presumably his personal prejudices don’t factor into his job and he’s not out here yelling “Kill the homosexuals!” However...if Mike Pence started talking about gays having weather control devices I think everybody would be saying “Uhhhh...yeah, you may need to step down Mr Vice President and maybe seek some psychotherapy while you’re at it.” |
| Any Jews who can help with the forecast tomorrow? Will school be cancelled? Thanks. |
So because Mike Pence is anti-gay, you're getting back at him by accepting anti-Semtiism? Why is it wrong for Republicans to be anti-gay (which it is), yet somehow it's fine for your Democratic leaders to be anti-Jew? IOW, it's fine by you for Democrats to be bigoted against Jews. Guess what? You're an antisemtie yourself. |
I am one of those who doesn't think that White's anti-Semitism is the main cause for concern. I base that opinion on the fact that White didn't say that "the Jews" were controlling the weather, but rather that the "Rothschilds" were controlling the weather and he claims not to have known that saying this is anti-Semitic. While I find that hard to believe, it is at least consistent that someone foolish enough to believe that the weather could be controlled by a single family would also be uninformed about that family's religion. Moreover, those Jewish individuals who have worked with him seem to accept his explanation and apology. While I disagree with their immediate acceptance, I concede that they are better placed to make such judgements than I am. This is not to overlook the anti-Semitism of White's remarks which we now know occurred more than once. I just feel that focusing on that aspect offers him an easy way out via apologies when the bigger picture is that moronic nature of what he said that would be moronic regardless of the religion of the alleged conspirators. |

Well I won’t deny you your right to label me. I know in this age/environment of social media labeling is very important to people so I won’t argue about your assessment. However I should point out that I’m an Independent so the rant about Democrats doesn’t quite fit. But you’re welcome to bash me if you want I don’t mind. Now if you’re insistent upon using the fact that I, personally, am more disgusted by Trayvon White’s stupidity than his insensitivity to make a blanket statement about a group and you’re not thrilled about slamming Independents...well I am black, so could always say something about all African-Americans but that would kind of put you in the same predicament of sounding prejudiced that you’re attempting to pin on me. So how about this - you insult me and me alone instead of an entire political party or an ethnicity and I shrug my shoulders and say “Whatever.” Deal? Cool. Nice talk have a good evening. |
| Not surprised at all....I’ve always just assumed local DC politicians are certified imbeciles. |
| Wonder how many times White has met with Farrakhan who seems to be somewhat of a diety in DC? |
I appreciate your explanation, and certainly your affirmation that we should not overlook antisemitism, but I think you're splitting hairs when you say that White may not know that the Rothschilds were a famous Jewish family, long the target for antisemites resentful of their financial success. They have been blamed for all manner of woes, and White was furthering the typical antisemitic belief that rich, powerful Jews are responsible for much of this country's problems. Also, I do not believe that he really thought Jews control the weather. No adult living in a developed country, in a major urban area, could be that stupid. It's just that his antisemitism led him to take the "conspiracy" form of antisemistm to the point that it strained credulity to anyone with an IQ over 70. In other words, the antisemitism at the heart of his remarks clouded his judgment. As for the Jews who have so quickly accepted his apology, they are all Democrats, and speaks to the point that Democrats are too quick to diminish or look away when the form of bigotry is against Jews. Had a white DC council member made a blatantly anti-black comment, he would have been removed that same day. |
| Now the video of him blaming the Jews for controlling the world bank and NO ONE in the room challenged him. Including Bowser. These are the people we elect in DC. They both need to go. Cheh is the only who hasn’t fully accepted his apology. |

Embarrassing for DC
Embarrassing for ballou high school Embarrassing for Ward 8.. But those are all used to being embarrassed I'm just sad for UMES. This guy somehow graduated magna cum laude from that University.. don't think I can see it the same after this |
| There is absolutely no way that he did not know that invoking the Rothschilds is a reference to Jews. This is standard Farrakhan fare (and other conspiracy theorists on the both the Left (AA and white) and right. This man has a college degree from the University of MD. It is the bigotry of soft expectations to pretend he had no idea what he was talking about. Brianne Nadeau doesn't speak for me on any issue (Grosse Pointe ivory tower/no real solutions for anything). Elissa Silverman I like, but her quick acceptance of his apology is nonsense. Should he be forced out office over this? No - he was elected by his Ward - and removing him would not solve anything. But, Muriel and Mendelson should both issue public censures (and explain their earlier non-corrections of his World Bank nonsense). |
