As far as black Democrats' assoication with Farrakan, I've been given the excuse that while he's nasty toward the Jews, he's done good for blacks. IOW, they're willing to look the other way because antisemtisim isn't seen as all that bad, and some of them actually agree with it.

White has to go. Anything less is acceptance of bigotry (and idiots).

The left is not mainstreaming anti-Semitism. The fact that your "evidence" of such a thing is a marginal DC Council Member (who believably claims to be too stupid to know he was being anti-Semitic), a years old meeting with Farrakhan, and a two-year old book reading by someone of whom nobody has ever heard, demonstrates that anti-Semitism is not being mainstreamed. Anti-Semitism is strongly rejected and condemned by almost all of the left.

And let me guess you will delete all posts and close all threads that don't comport to your view that the left isn't mainstreaming antisemitsm?

THE FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE USA MET WITH LOUIS FARRAKHAN AT A CBC EVENT. It was then covered up. THere is ZERO outrage from the left.

I will delete all off-topic posts. What a former president of the USA did several years ago has nothing to do with a DC Council member.

And when you deleted posts about why there's antisemitism in certain communities, and the link from the wapo showing the 30% plus of both hispanics and blacks hold deeply antisemitic views and how that might show that there's antisemitism on the left, you deleted it? It's almost like you want things to be hidden, and can't imagine how obama meeting with Farrakhan, in DC, is off topic about a discussion about antisemitism in DC. You seriously are deleting all the proof of the mainstreaming, then claim there's no mainstreaming.

And now we complete the circle. Of course he should be ousted - a man that spectacularly stupid (and racist) should never have been elected in the first place. But will he ousted? Of course not. Why? Bc his constituents believe the same things he does. You can't eviscerate stupidity of this magnitude in a community meeting, through public outreach or by logical reasoning. No amount of community gatherings at the JCC will change the prevailing belief in Ward 8 that the Jews control the weather. The only thing that can remove White is gentrification - the introduction of a large amount of educated people into Ward 8.

I have been giving you a lot of leeway on your posts. But, if you continue to go off-topic, I will lock this thread. The fact that you think a meeting on Capital Hill which didn't involve anyone elected by DC voters is reflective of local DC politics suggests that you know nothing of DC. The fact that you think a secret meeting suggests anything is being mainstreamed suggests you don't know the meaning of the word "mainstream".

Again, either stick to the topic of the thread or don't bother posting.

Can you provide the source of your claim of "the prevailing belief in Ward 8 that the Jews control the weather"?

I'm not the one who brought up that book meeting, and you should know that. No need to lump me together with other posters, and give posters the idea that there is only "one" of us who is appalled by the antisemtism on the left.

And you're doing the same thing - diminishing the antisemitism on the left, by saying how it essentially doesn't exist. You NEED to say that antisemtism is condemned by (almost) all of the left because that's in keeping with the myth that the left is against bigotry and the right is all for it. As a Jew, I am telling you that I have been subject to plenty of antisemitic attitudes from liberals - and virtually every member of my family has reported the same thing. (It's particularly telling when a liberal makes an antisemtic remark to your face, not knowing you're Jewish. It happens, believe me.)

You may have been typing when I posted my previous message, but you are dangerously close to causing this thread to be locked. The "left" in the US consists of millions of people. I can only say that "most" of them condemn anti-Semitism because there are likely a few who don't. Similarly, one cannot say that "all" of the right condemns anti-Semitism. Nobody is arguing that anti-Semitism does not exist on the left. Of course it does. I am disputing that anti-Semitism is being mainstreamed, which it clearly is not. If anyone is diminishing anti-Semitism, it is those of you excusing the anti-Semitism of the right. The claim made early that it is only a few violent incidents and therefore not as important as the non-violent left is ridiculous.

It's a miracle voters there didn't elect someone even stupider, more antisemitic or prone to conspiracy theories than Trayon White. Seriously, the ward has so many issues. No amount of gentrification will oust the generational poverty ingrained in the multitude of housing projects over there. It's crazy. I mean they kept Marion Barry was revered. Congress had to assume control of the city when he was in power. He got arrested for smoking crack with a hooker. I mean what can you say?

He paved the way for Trump.

Councilmember White worships at knee of Farrakhan.
Unless he denounces the NOI he hasn’t changed his ideology.

What evidence do you have of this relationship?

Who’s going to the DC Council meeting on Tuesday to ask that Trayon be ousted?

I wish I could. People really need to let the other council members know how angry we are about White and their lame response. Hateful ignorance should not be given a pass. If DC Council thinks it's a scandal that that our public schools give out diplomas with no meaning to students who haven't learned enough, they why are they accepting apologies with no meaning and giving ignorance a pass in their own house? They are hypocrites

Trayon's comments are close to being anti-semetic. As stupid as his comments were, they were anti-Rothschild, at best. Arabs are Semetic peoples, why aren't they complaining?

Here is a newflash to dumb people on this thread, no one worships Farrakhan at his feet. He's irrelevant in today's conversations. In addition, people in Ward 8 didn't even know who the hell Rothschild is. They voted for Trayon for God's sake. Crazy.

Don't get a head of your skies. He dude is so irrelevant it doesn't even matter.

There is no doubt that conspiracy theories involving the Rothschilds are a staple of anti-Semitism. In White's case, there is some question about whether he knew this since he claims not to have known that the Rothschilds are Jewish. This raises the possibility that White was spreading an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory through ignorance rather than anti-Semitism.

Also, languages are Semitic, not people. Both Hebrew and Arabic are Semitic languages. But, the term "anti-Semitism" is always used to refer to hatred or prejudice against Jews.

Yes, White is inarticulate and palpably unintelligent, facts that are immediately obvious to anyone who can read or hear. But remember the lion's share of White's constituents are every bit as uninformed and ignorant as White is -- that is why he was elected is the first place. How can you possibly expect White to be ousted?
Exactly, hence why the longer this goes on, the more popular he'll become in ward 8. However with gentrification he might not be able to become mayor

That's why it's so important that he be pressured to resign. It's an opportunity to teach Ward 8 residents that bigotry against blacks is not the only form of unacceptable prejudice - that bigotry against Jews is just as bad, and will not be tolerated. To do otherwise would teach the opposite lesson.

Do you understand how presumptuous and patronizing this sounds?

I think a bigger concern should be the antisemtism White is spreading among his constituents. Let's stop worrying for one second on whether something sounds patronizing to Ward 8 residents and focus instead on showing them that antisemtism is not acceptable.

Well said!
