Why to people like going to 'the beach'? It's so boring.

No idea, OP, I hate the sand.
I love summer in the mountains!
I love the coast too, but rugged with lots of opportunities for cliff-side walks is more my style.

I love soft warm sand between my toes. Different strokes. . .

Have you ever seen an actual beach, in the Pacific Northwest? Might change your mind.

Love the beach! Swimming in the ocean, jumping waves if you are in East Coast beaches, feeling warmth and the sun, reading a good book, and usually also swimming in the pool, it's awesome! Also, there are a lot of things you can do to prevent sun damage on your skin and to protect your hair. You also dont have to sit around all day, you can snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. Also, just because I enjoy a good beach vacation doesn't mean I don't enjoy cultural trips, they each have a place in my life!

Sorta like watching a snowfall. For me, being still under the shade of an umbrella with snacks in hand is relaxing. The kids have a built in entertainment with water and sand. For once, I can stop moving. To me, that's relaxing. Throw in super fresh local seafood and a beach house that is way nicer than our reg house (and awesome views) and I'm sold on beach trips.

Love it for the views/sounds and automatically happy kids.

Ha I love beach vacations without kids, but when I have mine, they are exhausting. I can't relax on a beach and I certainly can't read when they are in the ocean, because it requires constant supervision. I know I'm a bit neurotic about it - they are probably stronger swimmers than I give them credit for, but still. I like taking the kids to the beach for the first morning or two of our annual beach week, but after that I'm pretty much over it (the sunscreen, the laundry from towels and bathing suits, the sticky sand all over their little bodies). We still go though - because they love it.

I'm glad EVERYONE doesn't like the same things otherwise those places would be utterly miserable!!

I like the beach and my favorite beaches in VA/NC/DE include Bethany beach/Rehoboth, First Landing state park- VA beach but my favorite beach for a week is Ocracoke Island, NC as it is very quiet!

I also get overwhelmed by really intense crowds and heat and I love adventure so we don't usually go to the beach for more than a few days. We went to parts of France/Italy last year and yes--to a beach resort for 1 night near Nice-- Menton. It was nice but the water was much more salty and the rocky beach was rough! It was just okay for my toddler. The food wasn't great either but it was pretty.

I tend to prefer quiet lakes.

You might know me, I'm the one with great pale skin, nice hair and a passport full of interesting stamps.

For a few years we lived minutes from a beach coast. We went to the beach maybe 5 times. It ain't all that plus people lie, there is no 24/7 sea breeze. It's hot and that water attracts horrific lightning like crazy.

One thing I did do a lot of is people watch. I've seen things I cannot unsee.

100% agree. Lived in Los Angeles 12 years ... never once went to the leach other than to walk along it.

You're either a beach person or you're not.

Seriously we don't need to convert anyone. I love the beach:reading under an umbrella, diving into the waves, building sand castles.
There are lots of things we could have similarly useless arguments about: gardening, golf, camping, horses, video games, etc
