Why to people like going to 'the beach'? It's so boring.

I am the only one who finds going to the beach for vacation boring? Other people seem to love it. It's ok for a couple of days, but it is boring to sit and or lay around all day, it's hot, biting flies, drinking too much booze, then there is sun damage, hair damage, tourist trap prices. I just don't get the appeal. Why do people like it SOOO much?

I like it. Change of scenery. I like looking at the ocean and taking walks on the beach in the evening. Like to eat a lot of seafood for a week. Like the sun and relaxation. I like to read while sitting by the water. Overall, way better than normal life.

The ocean has a calming effect on people. Humans need to spend time near bodies of water, it's in our DNA.

I'm a big reader and the beach is a nice place to sit and read a book. Go in the water to cool off then bake in the sun. Bliss.

We also have kids and the beach keeps them occupied while I read (play in the sound, play in the shallows, etc.)

I like swimming in waves.

Unclench OP.

I like being by the ocean at any time of year. It has a calming effect on me whether I get to swim or not. The sand feels nice on my feet. I feel more in tune with nature.

I think the same could be said of any Caribbean vacation where one stays at a resort the entire time. Plenty of people like those.

these are my favorite kind of vacations. I love the beach, I love the ocean in all hues but especially the clear turquoise you find in the Caribbean, and I love sitting in the sun with a good book. Throw in an alcoholic drink brought to me and a delicious seafood dinner at the end of the day and I am in heaven. Different strokes for different folks

Cruises and the beach are both boring.

If you don't like to read for pleasure, I can see why it might be boring.

I wonder the same thing. But mainly on the west coast. You can't even go into the damn water because it's too cold. So what do you do? You literally sit- and watch the ocean. WTF?!

At least in the east coast beaches you can go swimming, go body surfing, play in it. What's even the point if it's just to look at? So strange!

Sounds like you are the one who needs to unclench. All the OP said was it's not for her, and you're taking an issue with it? Sounds like you need to put on some ocean sounds, ASAP

My DH is like you. He prefers active vacations. I love to relax, nap and read so beach vacations are far more enjoyable to me than to him.
