Why to people like going to 'the beach'? It's so boring.

You can read at home - why should I book a vacation, in order to read on a beach...I want to do something new and adventurous in my vacation, something that cannot be done everywhere - like hiking on a volcano in Iceland, kayaking between icebergs under the light of the midnight sun in Greenland, hunting the Northern Lights on a frozen lake in Lapland, etc. I think that people have no idea, that there are so many places to see (apart from beaches) or maybe they are just too lazy..But trust me, when I tell someone about my vacations, I always have tears in my eyes - because the landscapes that I've seen were so breathtaking and the cultures that I've met were so impressive. This kind of vacations make me feel spiritually rich. I don't think that a vacation on a beach can ever give you this...

I am planning to go to Spitsbergen and Antarctica in the near future - and guess what: I read so many guide & travel books at home, in order to plan the trips.

P.S: it's actually good that people prefer boring beaches - this way there are never too many people on my itinerary )

You sound insufferable. Trust me, no one is interested in your breathless retelling of your adventures.

+1

You realize cost is an issue, right? Lots of people in dc can afford a week in Bethany. Much fewer can afford Antarctica.

Of course I realize cost - but it depends on the priorities and how much you wish to go there. For me traveling is priority nr. 1, this does not mean that it should be the same for everyone.

You are digging that insufferable hole even more. Whenever people start throwing around "priorities" I gag. You can prioritize all you want but if you have $1-2K for a family of 4 leftover for any kind of vacation or travel for the whole year you can't "prioritize" global adventure into being. FFS

For what its worth, I travel the way you do. I maybe post 1-2 insta stories of a nice view or a great meal and that's it. I certainly don't do a misty eyed humble brag about the monk I spent the afternoon walking with and how spiritually rich my vacation has left me to my friends. BLEH. I say "it was really pretty, had a great time" and move on when someone asks. Because I can read a room and cool people don't actually have to brag about the cool things they do. You sound like the worst kind of travel snob try hard.

It's not boring it's wonderful! I live in a landlocked town but going on a seaside holiday in 3 weeks and i can't wait to go to the beach when on holiday! It's one of the most fun things ever! I don't know how you can say it's boring when it's not. When you go to the beach you can build sandcastles, play beach ball, run barefoot in the sand, surf and play in the water. It's one of the most fun things ever. I really don't know how you can say it's boring, especially when it's sunny. Sunny days are the best days for going to the beach

I can go for a few hours but I don't want to drag a bunch of stuff to stay all day. We rented a vacation house in Hawaii, that was good. There was a quiet beach right there, and anything you needed was in the house.

It's ok for a couple of days, but it is boring to sit and or lay around all day, it's hot, biting flies, drinking too much booze, then there is sun damage, hair damage, tourist trap prices. I just don't get the appeal. Why do people like it SOOO much?

What beach has biting flies???

It's the friends or family there to eat crabs with, or other seafood, go out dancing with, kids activities like rides, arcades, miniature golf. The great pizza and subs. Cooler weather there - must be 10 degree difference at least. The flat neighborhoods to ride cruisers. It's so much. I do think it is more special though if you know others who have places there to link up.

You might know me, I'm the one with great pale skin, nice hair and a passport full of interesting stamps.

ROFL. The response actually made you sound MORE stereotypical and boring. Well done.

I hate the people on the beach
With their towels and umbrellas, they're so insane

I don't wanna be on the beach! No! (x2)
I don't wanna be on the beach!
I don't wanna be on the beach! No!

I hate my girlfriend, she-she-she
Lies on the beach like a barrier reef
Soaking up the stupid sun
While the radio is blasting fun, fun, fun

I don't wanna be on the beach! No fun! (x2)
I don't wanna be on the beach!
I don't wanna be on the beach! No fun! No!

This is no way to spend a summer
I've got sand caked on my feet
I gave my ice cream to a shark
And now I've got nothing to eat
No fun!

I don't wanna be on the beach! No fun!
I don't wanna be on the beach! No fun! No!
I don't wanna be on the beach!
I don't wanna be on the beach! No fun

Thank you. Was just at the beach today and this post really resonates.

Boring people are bored.

It happens to almost all people, at times. And many people with ADHD are highly fun to be around.

I’d rather not take a vacation at all if the only option is a beach vacation. A coworker is currently in Montego Bay and every pic she sends shows her feet in the sand, the sun, and a cold beverage. Yawn.

With little kids a beach is great. But now that mine are 9 and 11 we’ve done more. We did snorkeling, hiking/ruins and caving in Belize and culture in Paris. I’m looking forward to more travel with them.., sadly with covid we’ve tried to do driving vacations, and we don’t ski.

I'm a big swimmer so I love a good beach vacation. Snorkeling and free diving is the best.

It's one type of vacation. We like to go once a year, and mix things up the rest of the year. We have a blast at the beach:. Lots of swimming, biking/rollerblading, good seafood, sports on the beach, some of us do surfing and SUPs, reading, usually find some sort of hike, walking around cute coastal towns.

I teach 5-year-olds all year. I want to go somewhere quiet where nobody is touching me and calling my name over and over again. The beach fits that description. We spend 2-3 days (usually half days since we sleep in) at the beach. The other days are for kayaking or visiting Charleston. We have gone to the beach in SC for nearly 10 years and never felt bored.

It’s ok not to be a beach person. I’m not either.
