Bowser is the worst mayor we've had since Pratt-Kelly. Sad!!!

Adorable.

1. Chronic mismanagement of the schools. Picked a chancellor who cheated the system after he himself wrote rules forbidding it. And that's just the tip of the iceberg (Ellington mess -- both the obscenely wasteful renovation and the fact that 30 percent of the school consists of residency cheaters -- plus the fact that she's done nothing about overcrowding and frankly doesn't care about it because it's Ward 3).

2. Violent crime is up, though mostly only EOTR, which she takes for granted.

3. Tried to establish homeless shelters in each ward (a noble goal) by basically giving away the land to her the developers that fund her campaigns. Council stopped that.

She closed the DC General site before the various ward shelters are up and running, so that the DCG site could be prepped for development. DC been Bowsered!

I was hoping you would name the commercial and residential RE Developers who she is in with.

Here's your answer:

"But records show that most of the private properties proposed as shelter sites are owned or at least partly controlled by major donors to the mayor. ...

"Her plan calls for spending at least $266 million — and perhaps closer to $300 million — to lease land and buildings over the next three decades, records indicate. Those payments would go to five private corporations, including three tied to political supporters Douglas Jemal, Bryan “Scottie” Irving and Suman Sorg.

The trio, along with their companies and family members, have given a combined $67,000 to Bowser’s mayoral and council campaigns and to a PAC working on her behalf."

The council put a stop this this foolish, costly, borderline corrupt plan and made the city build the shelters on city-owned land.

I generally like Bowser but don’t understand why she can’t get dcra to work. No other city has such long/erratic permitting times.

Oh, thank you! I was looking for another name. I have difficulty researching due to medical issues. I knew Jemal had to be involved though!

What's everyone's beef?

Side note: Marion Barry wasn't elected because he was black. He was elected again and again because he was insanely charismatic. Give the man his due.

TY!

She's stupid!

Having dealt with Bowser I wouldn't necessarily say she's stupid, but she does strike me as a poor politician.

people threw over fenty for gray, then gray for bowser. both are far superior to bowser. gray had been a head of at least one agency. being mayor is not the same as being on the council. she lacks the chops to be an executive. i voted twice for fenty and voted for gray when challenged by bowser. after the llc scandal, bowser proposed the most inconsequential reforms to close the loophole. the minute i heard about the homeless shelter proposal, I knew it was a boondoggle. the citizens pay developers for a building, which were inappropriate for families in the shelter system - one bath tub per floor. we then lease back the building - which we paid for! - from developers on a short-term lease. in nearly every instance, the buildings were being constructed on land that was not zoned for such dwellings. the moment those leases were up, the developers would have been able to construct buildings not in line with the original zoning. total bs. if she had not been greedy and had focused on affordable housing rather than lining her pockets, she may have actually done something for the people.

And don't forget that closing DC General has never really been about closing a substandard facility. It's been about making a prime site available for development, and the mayor knows that favored developers covet the opportunity,
