The Menendez Brothers

Erik wrote a letter to his cousin long before the murders talking about the sexual abuse. It was not admitted into the trial. A member of the Mnuedo finally came forward and said he was raped twice by the Menendez dad. Thank all the P Diddy news for him coming forward. Kim Kardashian is spearheading a petition asking the DA to review the evidence with all the new evidence.

Occum’s razor — they were pushed to the edge by abuse? Or so spoiled they shot their parents multiple times at close range with a shotgun? I’m not saying they aren’t sociopaths; I’m saying even if they are it is highly unlikely they’d kill because they are spoiled.

They didn’t seem particularly remorseful. Spending money and having a good old time on their ill gotten gains.

+1

They always spent a lot of money. Did you see the cars they drove pre-murder. They were having a good time because the evil nemesis who abused them all their life was dead. Ding dong the witches were dad.

But the brothers weren’t being abused at the moment. So their punishment is appropriate.

You are misunderstanding the point. It is not about setting them free or forgoing punishment, but about the difference between premeditated first degree murder and the legal definition of second degree murder.

The spending spree was not that much out of line for people raised in Beverly Hills or that money bubble

If what you said is true, what a disgusting, vile lifestyle to teach kids. Why would anyone think that's the way to raise kids with good character traits and decent values?

Asking about vile way to raise kids. When the boys were caught robbing homes, the father was not upset about them robbing homes. He was upset they got caught. He said I don’t care that you did it. I am upset that you were not smart enough not to get caught. And then he made the youngest son take full responsibility so that the oldest son would continue to have a clean record to run for POTUS some day.

I agree with that. I mean, it’s hardly surprising that there was something seriously seriously wrong in that house when you have two young men who would brutally murder both parents, even if it was “for the money.” So the abuse is extremely credible. I think it’s their age that gets them so much less sympathy and (to a lesser extent) the money. One of the brothers at least had already moved across country. Even after failing out of Princeton, he could have gone to some community college and gotten a job like any other schlub and never seen his parents again.
What’s more amazing to me is that trafficked teenage girl who shot her rapist and still got convicted and is in prison. I mean, she really didn’t have other good options and was still in the captured mindset. The menendez brothers had already been largely out of the house for a good period of time.

I might also be more sympathetic if they only killed the dad — like they didn’t want him to molest anyone else. But was there any suggestion the mom was a more general danger to other kids?

Mom condoned the rape of her sons for you because she was a weak as woman who cares more for a man than her children. She knew and blamed the boys for ruining her life. Disgusting.

Netflix is on a roll with its Trauma Porn documentary series - dahmer, baby reindeer, schitzophrenic brothers, Monsters Menendez bros.

Not sure how they’ll prove the date of or who wrote the “new” note that turned up. Similar to how the will “disappeared.”

Movie series was great at showing the 1980s and 1990s abuse, misogyny, racism, cop beats, etc.

Oh I totally agree she was a disgusting person who will burn in hell. But she didn’t post a risk to others the way the dad did. Can’t really call her execution “defense of others” which is maybe the way they felt about executing their dad.

What does that have to do with anything? They should feel remorse for having killed the people who made their life hell?

And they spent a bunch of money? So what, everyone in Beverly Hills spends a bunch of money.

It’s not ok to kill people and spend their money. Even Gypsy Rose Blanchard got 10 years and she didn’t even murder her mom herself. Not sure what kind of lenience people think the Menendez brothers would get for their crime. You can’t just kill people who did you wrong.

It depends on the wrong. If I found out somebody was sexually abusing my young children, yeah i would kill him or her to ensure that person doesn’t live long enough to sexually abuse another child, maybe yours. Women sexually abuse children as well.

Which law says it’s ok to blow your parents’ heads off because they did you wrong?

This is what’s wrong with internet discourse. People put words in other people’s mouths and then argue against those fake statements.

Hey dummy, no one said this is okay.

Then who cares what revenge you would exact in a hypothetical situation? Murder is wrong here and you will be punished accordingly. There is no “depends on the wrong.”

No one said murder is right. There could be a potential resentencing. That’s something that can and does happen. If it happens then there is good reason to believe that’s the correct punishment.

(NP) right murder is wrong but motive and reasoning is different
Murder your wife so you can be with your AuPair is quite different than murder your parents because they sexually and emotionally abused you for years

There was a case a few years back in Texas where a father came upon a man raping his little girl in a barn at some kind of function on the family’s ranch. I cannot recall the relationship of the rapist to the family, but in any case the father killed him on the spot. No charges were brought by the local county attorney, because he probably wanted to get re-elected for another term.

Most of us would understand the compulsion to snuff somebody we happened upon raping our child.

Surely we must all have some capacity to conceive the mind of a child raped for decades, a child living in terror of his parents - a young man who is still basically a child because his emotional development has been stunted by the trauma of being anally raped by his father on a regular basis and knowing mommy knows and doesn’t care - who is being told by those parents that he cannot go to school and live on campus, he has to keep living at home with mommy and daddy.

How was it not self defense for Erik to kill his rapist and the rapist’s enabler? How was it not defense of others for Lyle to kill them alongside his raped little brother?

C’mon people. This is not rocket science. These guys have served enough time for the snuffing out of two loathesome human beings.

But they said it was self defense, not revenge. It’s hard to argue it was self defense as they watched TV and ate ice cream.

Because these are adult men, 18 and 21. If they were minors this would make more sense. Kids much younger run away from abusive homes. The brothers were a much bigger thread to Kitty than she was to them.
