Someone came into my hotel room at 8am

I believe OP's story. DH and I stayed at Turnberry Isle Miami last February. Took something off the mini bar, and a hotel worker barged in our room with a clipboard to verify if an item was consumed. I stood there in a robe.

I'm glad we were present. Always lock up valuables, even in your own luggage with a lock.

I have never heard of a hotel assuming a room was unoccupied because the DND sign wasn't displayed. Housekeeping ALWAYS knocks or rings the bell if they know someone is checked into that room. They may even knock if it's vacant just to be sure a mistake wasn't made. One time I called for room service and forgot the sign was on, and they couldn't deliver it. They weren't even allowed to knock.

If the hotel staff was crappy and barged into your room, why protect their reputation?

She was holding a clipboard.

What the f. So sick of hotels doing this.

You mean that's not the first time? Put the do not disturb placard on the door handle and use the chain lock. Problem solved.

How about- let guests sleep past 8am before barging into their room? Problem solved.

Or you can just do your due diligence and take 2 seconds to slide the latch, which I would do regardless of when I was planning on waking up.

The door didn't have a latch, it had a bolt, which I locked. Thanks for your help in the thread, your input is no longer needed. Take care!

What kind of hotel doesn't have a slide latch? I use the do not disturb sign, I've never been bothered.

Lots of hotels?

All hotels I ever stayed have some sort of slide latch.

They couldn't just call? They actually had to watch you consume this item? The manager would have gotten an earful from me.

I had this happen to me in Vegas. Took an item off the minibar and put it back and promptly got a call by the manager informing us if we did it again they would have to charge us

The golden days of travel are dead and gone.

I wasn't too upset. I certainly didn't bother to tighten my loose robe. I figured, if this woman wants so badly to be in our room with us present, then she's welcome to an eye show. She's lucky I was wearing a robe.

To me knowledge it's not apart of a hotel chain. At least, it's not anywhere in the hotel logo and no brand names on any of the interior items (No ____ by Fairmont on the notepad or anything)

It's a nice hotel (or so i thought) in a major city, and like I said I am on the 18th floor.

Oh, did you say the 18th floor? A hotel with that many floors has to be nice. Good point.

Pretty much...OP's story doesn't add up.

If it hasn't happened to you then it could never, ever have happened to anyone else. DCUM rules

Maybe this is where the PP with the $18 hotel room stayed

NP: This thread has gotten derailed. It has happened to me at a NH Hotel in a mid sized European city. I went down and tore the front desk a new one. They comped me breakfast.

And, no, there was not some additional way to secure the door from the inside.

I was at a nice and expensive hotel in soho, NYC and someone opened our door at 2am then walked right out. It was bolted and either didn't have a match or we forgot to use it

This has happened to me, but it was after 10 AM. I called out when they knocked but they must not of heard it because they came in anyway. But they were very apologetic and left as soon as they saw me. If someone came in at 8 AM and stood there without leaving I would be very very annoyed and definitely complain
