Someone came into my hotel room at 8am

I travel loads for work and there's always either a slide or a bolt that cannot be opened from the outside. It's a security measure and I'm sure a hotel wouldn't want the liability of a stranger walking into a guest's room uninvited.

I was also wearing my night guard, so I couldn't talk, which is why I just stared at her and finally waved to her to try to make her leave.

I kid you not, she stood there for a good ten seconds, alternately giggling and saying things in broken english that I 100% did not understand.

Finally she turned to leave and that's when I realized I should ask about the kleenex, as I am out, and I ripped out my night guard. That's when told me she didn't have any.

It was absolutely insane.

You asked about Kleenex but now who she was...ok..

Where was this?

That's why I always use the physical bolt (chain lock, etc) if they have one. I haven't been to a 4-star or higher hotel that didnt' have somethign like that. I think corporate security requires this in order for their employees to stay there.

That was what I thought too. When she came in I just assumed she was a maid, and I was just woken up, and she was carrying a clipboard, so she looked official. But when she said she didn't have any kleenex, my first thought was that she was trying to steal something.

I complain to the maid desk but I might complain to the front desk too, because this does not smell right to me.

I have no idea if this actually happened or not. But I really do hate that I have to take so many measures to keep hotel staff out of my room early in the morning, when I am traveling.

It's absurd that I can't expect to be able to sleep until 8 in the morning, without having to triple lock my door and hang a do not disturb card.

It has a bolt... or so I thought, since she unlocked that instantly.

No slide latch at all, and the bolt is right above the main door lock.

It never bothered me until now. But now it does!

Exactly. Of all the nasty things in the hotel room I have to touch, I really don't feel like grabbing the do not disturb sign too and slinging it over the handle, or else I'm at risk of someone just waltzing into my room at 8am and oh well.

Really? You don't want to touch the sign? Just wash your hands.

You make it sound like it's a lot of work...but locking a door and hanging a sign takes all of 5 seconds.

You will sleep in a hotel bed and touch the doorknobs, but not hang a sign. You're story is getting more and more unbelievable.

But not that pronged thing that you flip that manually keeps the door shut? That is odd. I would definitely say something to the management.

So I talked to the housekeeping manager and he was very apologetic. He was saying that they do do walk throughs (where they go into people's rooms to see if they are still there or not) but not until 8:30.

Um, 8:30 isn't acceptable either? When did this become a trend?

Why not just clean the rooms of the guests that have checked out?

He did say he is going to find out who was on my floor and discipline her. So that's something, at least.

This was an attempted theft.

Hotels do not have staff enter rooms that early and without knocking first. She clearly wasn't housekeeping, either. I'd call the front desk to ask if anyone does this, and if/when you are told that they don't, tell them to call the police.

What country are you in? In the US a person could get shot for entering a hotel room without knocking first.
