Does your child know the pledge of allegiance?

Anonymous
I think it's required in DCPS, which is kind of shocking to me, especially given the liberal leanings of most residents.

What does liberal have to do with it? I'm quite liberal and like the pledge of allegiance....

What is wrong with you?

NP here, but my guess would be that they want their children to have a secular education, which is the right of all citizens, according to the First Amendment.

What are you prattling on about? Secular education? WTF?

It means an education that is free from discussion of religion and God.

What does saying the Pledge of Allegiance have to do with discussing religion or God in the classroom? They're mutually exclusive things.

Don't you DARE say this is about the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge. That would just make you an blathering idiot. Skip that part if you prefer.

In God we Trust is on our money. Do you not use cash?

Do you not know that Under God was only added to pledge in the 1950s as a result of McCarthyism? That's about as UnAmerican as it gets. We really need to restore the pledge to its orginal form.

Of course. My second grader knows it, they say it every day, and they are even studying more details of the meaning in social studies right now. Public school in northern VA.

My sixth graders do (teacher). They recite it every morning. I recite it as well, pausing for the "under God," which makes me uncomfortable. They generally stand but I do no ask or request that they do so.

I agree completely. (And, fwiw, I am a church-goer.) Very uncomfortable with required group pledges and chants.

I also don't understand the parents who don't even want their kids to at least know it. We even say the pledge at formal work events sometimes (fed job). It would be embarrassing to be an adult and not know it.

I didn't spend my life raising an ungrateful fucking liberal moonbat.

Liberal here whose kids have known the pledge since age 2. Every time they see a Trump sign they want to know why Mr. Trump doesn't think America is already great?

They are super patriotic and love America, as do I.

Me too

My FCPS kids learned it. We came from overseas and my kids picked it up very quickly.

My kids both know it, and the younger is 3. I must say that I was shocked that the 3 year old knew it but I am not opposed to them learning it.

I am a hard core Clinton supporter, FWIW.

Yes, they say it every morning before the announcements, at school.

My 4 year old does (learned it at pre-school).

My kindergartner does. Learned it in preschool.
