If you did that to my dog I'd grab the pepper spray out of your hand and spray it right back at you.

Why people walk their dogs on leash in the park, I will never know. Leashed dogs don't do well with unleashed dogs. If my dog is on leash, I have to keep it out of range of other dogs unless we have time to do introductions. Off leash, she has never had an issue with another dog.

I don't want problems with other people so I leash mine quickly. Once we pass, I unleash.

Like it or not people are going to walk their dogs in RCP off leash as they have for decades. DC is one of the only cities in the nation were there is no place where dogs can roam off leash. Fenced off areas at a playground are not the same as letting your dog run and covort in the woods or on a big field.

NYC allows off leash dogs in Central Park during designated times. And NYC is filled with some seriously venomous people - on par with the vitriol that you see here. But somehow, in the most famous urban park in the world. dogs are allowed run and roam freely.

If you or your child or your dog are innately afraid of unleashed dogs, work needs to be done. You can't live life with the belief that the rest of the world is going to be on a leash - whether that leash is physical or metaphorical.

Interesting, just last week yet another unleashed dog on RCP did not listen to their owner when they were called and approached very closely my leash aggressive/scared dogs. It was a mess and it took the owner quite a bit of time to remove his dog.

Dogs do not always listen. You may feel entitled to have your dog off leash, but it is against the law.. not a personal preference.

Wow just wow. I am afraid of dogs - insanely so when I am running. I hate it - my adrenal starts leaping and of one acts menacing I really freak out. You know why? I have been bitten twice running by dogs who "won't hurt you". I still like dogs but I truly do not like entitled dogs owners like you who think that it is find to break the rules.

You can't act scared or timid around dogs or you may be inviting them to bite you. Don't you know that?

Please call in off-leash dogs. My child has twice been lunged at and chased by dogs off leash. He is now absolutely terrified of dogs. We are also lucky he hasn't been seriously hurt.

And for those of you who have well-trained dogs but walk them off leash, I'm sorry, but I'm calling you in as well. When your dog is off the leash, other people think it's okay to have their badly mannered dogs off leash too.

+2 My kids were attacked by a pack of (like 7) off leash dogs who were about 300 yards up hill ahead of their absolutely insane dog walker from Virginia. One kid was pinned down by a dog twice his size and my little one was frozen nose to nose with a snarling bull dog. Terrifying. So now my kids hate dogs. Great.

In the RCP trails?

A "snaring bull dog"? Bull dogs are the most gentle breed I he world. Story is made up.

There are aggressive individuals in every breed....they are animals, not programmed machines.

A 5,000 pedestrians are killed a year in the U.S.

In DC. 14 pedestrians and one biker were killed in 2016. About 730 bikers get killed each year.

In 2015 dogs killed 34 people in the U.S. No data on DC.

However, studies on fatal dog attacks point overwhelmingly to a handful of problem breeds. Pitbulls and Rotweillers are responsible for the large majority of attacks.

It's only bad if someone dies?

They essentially let their dogs run everywhere but think an occasional,"Barkley, now, don't do that." Is doing anything. There is something about owning a dog that brings out the most inconsiderate behavior in some people.

Dogs have become a security blanket for stunted adults with an inability to cope with the outside world.

I absolutely agree. It really seems to take the place of having a child for some. Of course you love it but it is still an animal. Just an animal.

My dogs are afraid of other dogs (due to being attacked once by an unleashed dog), and when I see an unleashed dogs on RCP I ask the owner to either hold or leash it so that it does not run up to my dogs and freak them out and become leash aggressive.

Today the dog owner refused and her dog lunged at mine. What is a number I can call (or email) to report unleashed dogs on RCP, as in the future I am bringing my camera and taking photos to report all unleashed dogs.

Unacceptable and unsafe!

You need to chill out OP.

The OP should chill because she was attacked by an unleashed dog???

Sounds like they have deeper rooted psychological issues and an inability to cope.

Believe me, if someone hurts my dog I would hurt them. Immediately. 99% of men would do this, consequences be damned. The man in Algonkin park only shot that dog because it was with a woman and he was a coward.
