OP. Funny. I walk my dogs on/off Soapstone and find it terrible for unleashed dogs and owners that refuse to leash them. Having been attacked a few times there is why my dogs are afraid and leash agressive. |
Where is this? |
| I just looked it up. Is it paved or in the woods? |
|
I walk by dogs off leash in the RCP and always will. I leash proactively when ever we see horses, nervous people or leashed dogs. Why people walk their dogs on leash in the park, I will never know. Leashed dogs don't do well with unleashed dogs. If my dog is on leash, I have to keep it out of range of other dogs unless we have time to do introductions. Off leash, she has never had an issue with another dog.
I don't want problems with other people so I leash mine quickly. Once we pass, I unleash. Like it or not people are going to walk their dogs in RCP off leash as they have for decades. DC is one of the only cities in the nation were there is no place where dogs can roam off leash. Fenced off areas at a playground are not the same as letting your dog run and covort in the woods or on a big field. NYC allows off leash dogs in Central Park during designated times. And NYC is filled with some seriously venomous people - on par with the vitriol that you see here. But somehow, in the most famous urban park in the world. dogs are allowed run and roam freely. If you or your child or your dog are innately afraid of unleashed dogs, work needs to be done. You can't live life with the belief that the rest of the world is going to be on a leash - whether that leash is physical or metaphorical. |
| Why would you call? Just whip out your AK-15 and kill the annoyance. |
Of course, and one day your dog might get shot. Have a care. |
Guns are not allowed on federal parks. Also, in DC we are a bit more cultivated than that. Frankly I wish there was a cell phone number we can call and text photos of people with dogs off their leashes so they can go after the repeat offenders |
Interesting, just last week yet another unleashed dog on RCP did not listen to their owner when they were called and approached very closely my leash aggressive/scared dogs. It was a mess and it took the owner quite a bit of time to remove his dog. Dogs do not always listen. You may feel entitled to have your dog off leash, but it is against the law.. not a personal preference. |
There are places to do that...you should learn how to find such resources using the internet. If your dog lunged at me I would probably hurt it, and the law would be on my side. If you care about your dog, you should act like it. |
| Everyone with an unleashed dog has a very special and unique dog with special circumstances because the are definitely, totally different than all those other unleashed (or leashed) dogs. |
Really? http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/594459.page |
Wow just wow. I am afraid of dogs - insanely so when I am running. I hate it - my adrenal starts leaping and of one acts menacing I really freak out. You know why? I have been bitten twice running by dogs who "won't hurt you". I still like dogs but I truly do not like entitled dogs owners like you who think that it is find to break the rules. |
I am not going to go through the 7 pages of notes, but I do not see how this relates to a shot dog - especially in rock creek park, where guns are not allowed. please explain. |
The shooting happened in Loudon County, Virginia. This is almost a totally different planet than the area around Rock Creek Park in DC. DC does not include Virginia or Maryland. I would say the population in RCP is a lot more refined than the population found in rural Virginia. Especially when it comes to carrying guns around the park. |

Why do you have aggressive dogs? Even on a leash they could bite someone walking by. Please keep them out of the park. |
