Number to Call to Report Unleashed Dogs on Rock Creek Park?

Anonymous
I encounter this at least twice on every walk. And each time they are constantly giving unheeded verbal commands. They essentially let their dogs run everywhere but think an occasional,"Barkley, now, don't do that." Is doing anything. There is something about owning a dog that brings out the most inconsiderate behavior in some people.

I mean yes, it is illegal, but do you call 911 when you see people jaywalking? Riding their bicycles at night without lights? Give me a break.

Someone jaywalking or riding a bike without a light can't main or kill me, so there's that. An aggressive out of control dog with an ablivious owner could easily disfigure or kill me, so there's that.

What number are you supposed to call in Maryland?

Maybe if more people start reporting these antisocial jerks, things would start to change.

My dog needs to run fast and chase wildlife in the woods. So sick of you assholes. I've been taking dogs to the trail off Parkside near Beach for 40 years and you whinging newcomers can f*ck right off.

Lol lets see how you feel after someone kills your dog, like what happened not too long ago in Va.

Details on the dog that was killed in Va, please.

Dogs have become a security blanket for stunted adults with an inability to cope with the outside world.

A 5,000 pedestrians are killed a year in the U.S.

In DC. 14 pedestrians and one biker were killed in 2016. About 730 bikers get killed each year.

In 2015 dogs killed 34 people in the U.S. No data on DC.

However, studies on fatal dog attacks point overwhelmingly to a handful of problem breeds. Pitbulls and Rotweillers are responsible for the large majority of attacks.

My dogs are afraid of other dogs (due to being attacked once by an unleashed dog), and when I see an unleashed dogs on RCP I ask the owner to either hold or leash it so that it does not run up to my dogs and freak them out and become leash aggressive.

Today the dog owner refused and her dog lunged at mine. What is a number I can call (or email) to report unleashed dogs on RCP, as in the future I am bringing my camera and taking photos to report all unleashed dogs.

Unacceptable and unsafe!

You need to chill out OP.

What an ass. Call 911 on this ass. If the dog is off leash and the owner won't restrain the animal, call 911. Done.

You're sick. 911 is for emergencies, not bedwetting.

Anonymous wrote:Interesting, just last week yet another unleashed dog on RCP did not listen to their owner when they were called and approached very closely my leash aggressive/scared dogs. It was a mess and it took the owner quite a bit of time to remove his dog.

Why do you have aggressive dogs? Even on a leash they could bite someone walking by. Please keep them out of the park.

It sounds like your dogs where the ones that became aggressive (at least from what you wrote)....but I totally agree that all dogs should be leashed regardless of disposition.

Please call in off-leash dogs. My child has twice been lunged at and chased by dogs off leash. He is now absolutely terrified of dogs. We are also lucky he hasn't been seriously hurt.

And for those of you who have well-trained dogs but walk them off leash, I'm sorry, but I'm calling you in as well. When your dog is off the leash, other people think it's okay to have their badly mannered dogs off leash too.

*lunged* at?? Oh the humanity!!!

It's up to the operator to determine if it warrants police action, not you. An aggressive dog can absolutely be an emergency. Don't be obtuse.

That's not what the PP recommended. He said call 911 if you merely see an off leash dog.

+2 My kids were attacked by a pack of (like 7) off leash dogs who were about 300 yards up hill ahead of their absolutely insane dog walker from Virginia. One kid was pinned down by a dog twice his size and my little one was frozen nose to nose with a snarling bull dog. Terrifying. So now my kids hate dogs. Great.

In the RCP trails?

A "snaring bull dog"? Bull dogs are the most gentle breed I he world. Story is made up.
