Southern Girls Beauty and Femininity

This look just screams "vapid" to me. The only men you are going to attract with this look are the equally vapid preppy bros. It's like interesting-person repellant

That is the most sexist thing I've heard lately, judging a woman as "vapid" based on how she dresses. I guess we are supposed to do as the movies tell us and identify the "smart one" as the one wearing glasses? Welcome to 2016, smart girls are allowed to be pretty and well dressed. Not that she is particularly well dressed, but you get my point. Don't judge based on appearances.

I don't think anyone claimed the women are vapid, just that they look like they are.

It's the same as dressing like a hooker. You look like a hooker. Are you a hooker though? Maybe, maybe not.

I'm about as southern as they come - Debutante, Ole Miss sorority, Junior League in Jackson, Birmingham, and Atlanta. We've lived all over the world, including literally every region of the U.S. Girls and women in the South are more attractive overall. It's partly the way we dress and take care of ourselves. However, I think the main reason men find southern women attractive is because we don't walk around trying to be men. We can be educated, smart and successful without trying to act like we have a penis.

Southern women have a softness that northerners just don't have. Even our accent is soft and feminine. Hearing DC women speak is like nails on a chalkboard to my husband - just too fast, too loud, and too aggressive. You can be respected in the workplace an still act like a lady.

Want to be more southern? Dress nicely. Do your hair and make up. Speak softly. Never curse around anyone but your closest friends. Don't get offended when a man holds open the door or offers his seat. If you weren't raised to behave like a lady, learn what that means.

No one is saying they aren't smart. Just that their outfits are boring and make them appear to be boring. Like how an interesting outfit makes you appear to be interesting (even though you might not be)

Ugh good god No. On average, women in southern California are much hotter. And they don't dress like 8 year olds.

Southern women are caricatures.

Anonymous wrote:To the person that said of you see a white woman with straight hair and not frizzy/curly then it means she spent a good amount of time straightening it...you are wrong. I've never heard such a statement. I am white and my hair is stick straight. Does not hold a curl even if I shellac it with hairspray while it's wrapped around a curling iron.

I wear powder foundation, eyeshadow, mascara and lip gloss and it takes me 40 minutes to get ready including a shower. Bright colors. Good quality pieces. Mix and match color. Navy with everything. BUT it's not just about fashion. Like others have said, smile more. Be polite. Know your manners and etiquette. Be a lady.

That was me -

There's always an exception to every rule. And I believe I said "there's a high probability"... but in any case - let me ask you this. You claim your hair is naturally stick straight. But if you're like most people I know, your hair is not natural and hasn't been for years. You've likely bleached your hair at some point, or got highlights, or got some treatment done to it. You probably even use special shampoos or conditioners designed to keep your hair straight. With that in mind - can you still say that you have naturally straight hair?

Yes. I haven't colored my hair since 2011. I use Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser shampoo.

Southern Living has a style section that could help OP replicate southern style. In the magazine, sometimes they have mother / daughter looks--what they Moms are wearing and what the daughter's are wearing.

Anonymous wrote:OP is definitely a 40-year-old man getting off on the fantasy of being a frump who is transformed into a glorious southern belle.

OP is Southerner wanting to compare herself favorably to those ugly ole Yankees.

That said, I'm from New England and went to college down South, and the styles and effort put into one's hair and makeup were very, very different (at least they were 20 years ago). You have to like the made-up look vs. a more natural one, but the difference was dramatic. All that said, I have a feeling that the differences aren't as great now thanks to YouTube makeup blogs and hair tutorials and such.

Worst justification for bullying I've ever heard.

Can we all agree on this: The looks of the median lady in both South California and the South are way better than here in DC.

Who is being bullied here, exactly? The made-up anonymous 23 year old in the original post?
