That song is the STA Hockey Team's "Victory Song" that they sing in the locker room after every win. The STA Hockey Team had earlier that week beaten the Prep Hockey Team in the semi-finals of the playoffs but then lost to Landon in the finals the day before the basketball game. The Prep guys were singing the song during the basketball game to rub it in STA's face that even though we beat them in the semi-finals of the hockey tournament, we lost in the finals. We were retaliating by singing the song as a sort of "basketball victory song" after we beat them in the basketball game, and to show that we were still proud of our hockey team. You all seem to really misinterpret a lot of this stuff. We are just high school kids, we aren't thinking that deeply.

I am totally confused. Is this song the STA victory song? So are people, now saying the STA boys are homophobes for picking the song?

How embarrassing must this description of what actually occurred to the OP. Or at least it should be.

He or she misunderstood what the singing was all about and rushed to smear the Prep student body.

Just imagine how happy she or he must have been to serve as a sentinel for anti-gay sentiment and actions.

But then "hyper-sensitivity" will inevitably lead to this sort of thing.

Where is you apology, OP?

I can see why you would be confused by the thread, but this whole thing has gotten out of hand and is a great example of how things go horribly wrong when someone jumps to conclusions and posts things instead of trying to find out the facts.

This is a Victory song for totally random reasons. The lyrics are not homophobic and have nothing to do with it being a victory song. The song is about a guy who is cheated on by a girl who claims that another guy is "just a friend" The song happened to be playing in the locker room after a big win and the boys starting spontaneously singing along because it is a fun song. Then it became a tradition to do this after every win.

That's it. No big controversy or slurs by anyone at either school.

Methinks OP just isn't that bright.

Or the OP is caught up in a real desire to be sooo sensitive and politically-correct.

Team songs are common place in the English Premiere League, which is very popular among the boys. The West Ham fans sing "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" throughout the game, for example.

Reluctant to say it, but the Catholic Church is notoriously anti-gay. Sorry.

This has got to be one of the dumbest threads started on the private school forum. There is more hate in this thread than any of those kids could possibly have. It is school rivalry and it is boys. And I still have yet to understand how that song is anti-gay. Honestly, I don't.

Let's let this thread make it's way to second page and beyond please.

I have been checking the thread from time to time out of curiosity to see if there is a retraction or apology from the OP and other pilers-on and cannot believe it has gone on for 7 pages. These are serious allegations leveled at boys who did nothing wrong. Had the OP just asked any of the boys at the game (or parents) he or she could have saved a lot of pot stirring and embarrassment.

Perhaps the OP is offended by the taunting of the fan sections at big rivalry games, but that is a totally different discussion perhaps worthy of debate or not. As a player, I think my son is actually invigorated by the rival chirps, has never been offended, and enjoys having it be part of a big game feel, but I could see an alternate side to that.

As far as chirping goes, these kids did nothing homophobic or wrong.

Very funny! Clear that the OP isn't up to date with these songs!

From a current Prep student, this is a song we sing that has nothing to do with St Alban's hockey, and especially nothing to do with any homophobic connotations. We have been singing this song in our student section for years now because it is a fun and catchy song. The entire Prep student body is confused as to why this has blown up so much, and we are sorry it was misinterpreted.

I really love that song and I'm a 45 year old mom. Please Don't apologize. You did nothing wrong.

Well, I think you should be more gracious than that, above poster.

Admit when you were wrong and move on.

It is what adults do
