OK - so it wasn't reworded. But boys singing 'you say he's just a friend' to another group of boys does seem to make a statement about homosexuality. The only mistake OP made was not remembering the words to the song. Jeez.

Seriously. I can't figure out how this went off the rails about to words to the song, but how could that be interpreted any other way?

This song is a lover's lament. The singer is addressing it to the object of his affection ("Oh baby you, you got what I need").

So, if you want to take its lyrics at face value -- as some here seemingly do -- then everyone involved in its singing at the basketball game would be gay. The singers, the opposing player they are singing it at, and the presumed object of the opposing player's affection.

In that light, it is not anti-gay at all, since everyone involved seemingly takes it for granted that gay relationships are nothing to be ashamed of, even in the masculine environment of a sporting event between two all-male schools.

Landon and Prep kids embarrass themselves, their families and their schools with their behavior at games.

The sad thing is that neither themselves, their families nor their schools feel embarrassed. So the behavior continues unchecked.

I went to a school like this, and this is the attitude that keeps me from sending my own children. Presuming you are an adult, you just excused some godawful behavior by kids because "hey, we're richer than you and you're jealous." No.The OP accused the Prep and STA kids of a homophobic taunt.

As these students have clearly explained, there was no such taunt.

OP was wrong and making this charge was despicable.
