Decision on Murch swing space

Anonymous
I think deplorable is overstating it. Deplorable would be postponing the renovation for an undetermined amount of time or years. Is it less than ideal for some people? Yes. Did DCPS do a bad job communicating with families? Yes. "Deplorable" set up for the swing space? No. The renovation is actually going to happen, which has been an issue for many years. Let's at least recognize that we are going to have the new school facilities we've been asking for for years. There is no "perfect" swing space. There will always be people to spot issues and drawbacks to any situation. Chin up, fellow Murch families. Let's set a good example for our kids and drop the drama.

13:59 here, and I agree. It's not deplorable by any stretch. Given the limited time, rather than resisting the solution and complaining about real and perceived slights, we need to start figuring out how we're going to bring our estimable community energy to making this work.

Burke and Maret, plus UDC and Stoddert Soccer.

Doesn't Maret already have a school exclusive on the Jelleff field on Georgetown? Not to mention they have a large field on their campus. This sounds like a money-making scheme for UDC or, more accurately, a money making scheme for someone in a position of authority at UDC.

UDC thinks that Ward 3 doesn't really want them in Upper NW and so they have little interest in helping the neighborhood.

UDC is correct. Show of hands: Any homeowner in Ward 3 ever take a class or use any UDC facilities?

Over the years UDC has gone back and forth in letting DC residents use facilities like a pool and tennis courts. Everything is a struggle with them. God help them if they rename the place Marion Barry University (as a bill before the DC council would do).

For the time at UDC - where would the drop off and pick up spots be? On Van Ness Street?

Does the State Department have any say in this?

Will the mud field at UDC be fixed so it can be used for recess? What happens if it isn't?

All great questions. All without answers.

UDC is used to shit quality. They don't plan to fix their field for the kids' recess.

Give them some time to work it out have faith that they will make arrangements.

Riiiight, just trust them. Because they've handled everything so well up to this point.

Have you even looked at the renovation plans? Almost a quarter of the current building is set aside for administrative use. Are they saying they will renovate that section twice -- once so kids can go there during the second year of swing and again when the school is completed? What about play space? Why has no information been given about traffic studies or parking? And how is it that only days before the deadline it became known that UDC had plans for the soccer field? I'm sorry, but this entire process is deplorable. It's not "drama" to hold DCPS's feet to the fire on these and the many other issues to ensure the next two years run as smoothly as possible for our kids.

Could Murch use the new UDC student center for classrooms?
