Decision on Murch swing space

Anonymous
Why doesn't dcps have a Murch community member on their panel? This is such a weird "resolution".

How can you have presented UDC as an option if it was not truly possible as a swing site? For reals?

It's an embarrassment.

I don't know. It doesn't bother me. Kids are currently back and forth between trailers and main building--3rd grade trailer, 4th grade building, 5th grade trailer. Why is this such a big deal?

The problem is that very few large construction projects stay on their original timeline. This allows no buffer if after 1 year the original building is not move-in ready. Other than that maybe it's a good compromise?

So they will spend about $7 million taxpayer dollars putting up a trailer school at UDC then tear it down and spend another $7 million to rebuild it at Murch? Way to go

Why doesn't UDC delay their plans one year?

Murch parents should make their voices heard on this. Lafayette certainly did and now it's our turn. No reason UDC can't delay renovating their soccer field for a year. Contact DCPS and let them know how you feel!

You guys are too much. Have some perspective. Our children will be fine. They most assuredly couldn't care less.

I jut hope they don't inherit their resilience from you. They'll make millennials look like soldiers in comparison.

You'd rather be bussed to trailers than be on-site, with some kids in a newly renovated building? I don't understand that.

Who is "Field LLC" and why is UDC in a deal with them?

And why are their interests being prioritized over the interests of 625 DCPS students?

UDC thinks that Ward 3 doesn't really want them in Upper NW and so they have little interest in helping the neighborhood.

I have lived in close proximity to UDC and have never felt that UDC has done anything to engage the community. The only thing that I can think of that they did do was lock the tennis courts. When we first moved here they were available to the community with the lights, then they weren't. Maybe this would be a way to engage the neighbors.

Interesting. Seems like the community has never cared or engaged UDC so why so surprised?

As a tax paying person in this, girl you crazy. Our children have been short changed for years. As the parent of a fourth grader, and a younger as well this is just ridiculous. The shortsightedness on DCPS is unconscionable. This was never on the table! This is a last minute solution, and how much have they really thought this through. So Janney and Lafayette and Hearst and Key all got a better plan and solution, our renovation sloppy seconds. If it is good enough for you. Enjoy. Deal breaker for us. We will be going some where else.

Seriously? Impetus is on me? I should go into UDC and have an outreach program from my house? I will call it the Alton Place Outreach. I will hire PR firm that can liaise with the university. Please. That is stupid.

FWIW (and we are in Ward 6 with no dog in this fight) my son was at three different campuses for pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade. His school decided to relocate and expand, so we were at the old school for a year, then a temporary location (in a trailer!) and then finally in a new, permanent building. It was all completely, utterly...fine. I'm certain it was a hassle for teachers. And parents put in a lot of volunteer hours helping with the moves. But the kids were unfazed. And our perm building hasn't even been renovated yet!

UDC, Stoddert Soccer, and the soccer teams of Burke and Maret private schools.
