I need a life.

But more importantly, did your DH go to drop off the fish?

Me too! I was laughing so hard yesterday I logged on this AM to read more.

Confession: I told my coworkers about my "friend" and her troubles with fish watching duties.

Too sensible! Get on with the spirit of the other replies!

I think OP isn't trying too hard to return the fish. Perhaps its because her kids have gotten attached or perhaps she has nefarious plans. Sushi?

Maybe OP would feel bad returning a beloved fish to such a neglectful fish owner. I would!

If this post is real, maybe the guy was hoping the fish would accidentally die and he'd be rid of it.

Do all you Seinfeld lovers know about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee?

I've had people leave both a bird and a Rottweiler with me for an extra week at different times. Now I don't agree to animal sit except for for close friends.

OP, can you please keep the fish? We all are now very invested in the welfare if this fish. I for one am so happy that your kids love it and that you are trying to keep it happy. I think Goldie should be the official DCUM mascot!

Thank goodness it was just a fish. Can you imagine if this guy left you with a rabbit or guinea pig?

Or a child, just for a couple hours, to go to a wine tasting??

When I was nine, I actually ended up with a caterpillar too. No kidding.

Thus I never agreed to watch anyone's pets again.

Like ever.

OP back with a final update. It is with mixed feelings that I report that said neighbor came by last night to pick up his fish. I was too surprised and quite frankly relieved to ask where the heck had he been. My 4 yo daughter cried, "I want to be with Goldie!!" But he didn't offer to let us keep it nor did I ask to keep it. I believe in family reunification and the fish did not seem upset about leaving.

We wish you well Goldie. This is very much a true story. And no, we will not be buying a replacement fish.

Dying. Love this thread.

OP here. He did offer to let us visit but I thought it best not to accept. And he did give my daughter $3 to pay for the extra fish food we bought. I refused to take it so he gave it to her. My other two kids barely batted an eye at the entire situation.

You joke, but friends of my in laws ended up with 2 new siblings this way. Their neighbor dropped them off and never came back. They eventually were able to adopt them, so they had 5 kids who were in in their 30s and adopted a 2 and 4 year old.
