| My 6th grader heads has a snack then heads for shower around 8:30 then reads until lights out around 9:30 (give or take) and wakes on his own (i.e. no alarm, I don't wake him) between 7 and 7:30 am daily. Seems to be right for him based on his grades, mood, activity level etc. |
| Whatever time is required for them to get out of bed with a smile on their face. Don't let weekend bedtime slip later too much. |

My kids have never had a lights out time. Neither one has ever been able to fall asleep if I just turn off the lights and say goodnight. So it's always been "quiet time" - be in your room, and read if you want.
My big one is now in 5th grade and he usually says a final goodnight around 930. Sometimes 9. Occasionally 1030. But he tends to listen to his body, and when he's done he's done. As long as he gets up in the morning without too much grumbling, I'm ok with it. |

It depends on the kid, when they need to wake up, and how much of a mess they are in the mornings.
My 14 year old has never slept much, and I learned pretty early that enforcing bedtimes wasn't going to work. If she's awake after 9:30 on school nights or up before 6:00 on school days, she's expected to read, do homework, or do something other than electronics. As far as I can tell, she falls asleep around 11:00, is up around 5:00, and doesn't seem to need more sleep. The 11 year old has to wake up at 6:30, and tends to be a complete mess if I don't force an 8:30 reading quietly/9:00 lights out time. |
| My 6th grader goes to bed between 8/8:30. Every other night I still put him to bed (I rotate between him and his younger brother). He gets up at 7, however, he still wakes up most nights and comes into our room. They both do. So even though they sleep longer it is more interrupted. |
| 6th grader is in room in bed around 9. Usually reads. No lights out time. He has to get up at 6:15 though. |

My 6th grader goes to sleep around 9:30p and wakes up around 6:30a.
IMO if you're struggling to get up in the morning then you're not getting enough sleep. I would shut down those devices earlier and make sure she's not getting too much sugar or caffeine (chocolate has caffeine) before bed. If my kids want to stay up later; they have a book light and can read as long as they want. NO phones in their rooms, they have old school alarm clocks. |
| About 9:30-7. Have to wake her up at 7. She had sports three nights a week and is tired. No video games, just reading (though sometimes reading on kindle). |
