Downton Abbey (1/28) (spoiler alert!)

I really hope not. I think that would be a sign of pretty horrible writing, but I won't put it past these writers.

I think one thing they've done well is develop an easy sibling-like camaraderie between Tom and Mary that is better in its platonic form.

Tom with Rose. I like that.

An interesting read if you like Isis. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/programs/features/spotlight/downton-abbey-s4-unsung-heroes-isis/

Ok I am going to predict that Miss Bunting does NOT get invited to dinner. At least not Upstairs.

Isis will continue to be there, but off camera.

And if I don't see the handsome Dr. Clarkson, I will be furious!

WHAT?? why?? I love seeing him there. :0)

Because Lord G keeps looking down and saying, "Come, Isis!" and then walks off camera and you never see her! Unfair! They need to do more with Isis. Everyone sort of ignores her; I want to see interaction! Cut to a scene where Edith is sobbing into Isis's neck, that sort of thing. Or where Isis goes and looks at each character who is having a rough time, as if she "knows."

Lord Gantham is an ass. He blew Cora's family's money and gets all jealous of the art dealer when he was the one who cheated on Cora with a young house maid who he then fired. He is only relevant because of his family's social status. Turds like that should be working sun up to sun down hammering rocks and digging holes.

LOL. I love you, PP.

Mary didn't seem to get it, either, so I"m not sure if the audience was supposed to. The only thing I could think he meant was that she should tell G she's marrying him (Blake), but I don't see how that would help.

If Mary does end up with Blake, does she have to tell him about her sleeping with G? What about poor Mr. Pamuk? That seemed like such a big deal with Matthew, but it doesn't seem to have hardly come up in Gillingham v. Blake.

Agree that Barrow is trying to cure his homosexuality. The brochure that the other maid found had the word "Choose" in bold on the ad. I assume it's along the lines of "Choose your sexuality." Sad. Although I like that their giving Barrow a story line beyond being a jerk.

How has no one else, esp the wife, figured out the Marigold is Edith's child? I mean, the secrecy about her placement with the other family, and Edith's obsession with the kid. It seems like it wouldn't take much of a leap.

Q about Cora -- she said her dad was Jewish. I don't know if this was ever explained, but I'm curious (having some sense that her being Jewish was probably a very big deal back then, but not really understanding exactly how it would matter): did Cora's dad convert to some Christian faith, or did her mom convert to Judiasm and Cora was raised Jewish? Or was she raised both? Would it had been possible to marry Robert if either of the latter two were the case? Or could she have been raised Jewish and then converted when she got married to Robert. The way she said "my father was Jewish" made it sound like she was not, but I was curious. Also, her brother's being Jewish never came up when he visited and was being hit on by some of the English upper class, so that made me also wonder if maybe Cora's dad converted or, at the very least, the kids were not raised Jewish.

Did you know that Mr. Pamuk is the sexy mofo from Divergent? Yum!

I did not! Good catch!

Mary and Tom never. Younger sister can marry outside her class but not the oldest.

If Bunting snags Tom I will fly to England and personally smack Julian Fallows (or is it Fallowes?)

If Lord Merton snags Isobel Crawley, I will send Julian Fallow(e)s a sharply worded note on high quality writing paper expressing my displeasure

Mr Pamuk is destined to always play a dirty boy -- yum!

I went back and watched that episode after I figured that out. DA is way better than Divergent

He didn't cheat with the house maid. He just thought about it.

Exactly. It's classic soap opera in that way. Really the only question is who will die in the last episode. I vote for Lord Grantham. He seems to have an awful lot of other projects these days-so maybe he wants out.

Nonsense. It was an emotional affair!

I love the way Isis follows Grantham everywhere in the village or the house. They show him/her a lot. Cute puppy.
