Does anyone truly believe there is an after-life?

Anonymous
I don't know of anyone who experienced after-life... only heard it in fairy tales and the bible. So, NO, it is impossible to "believe". But I will update if I ever run into anyone who died that can confirm an after-life.

Different PP here. Too much hate oozing out of every one of atheist PP's posts for this to be a happy person. Atheist PP needs to step away from the keyboard. Or, as another PP suggested, stop insulting internet strangers and DO something about child brides and the next Bush (I don't want Jeb either). That would be meaningful!

I am. I work at a non-profit with a meaningful mission. A non-profit that does work many fundamentals would have problems with.

And quit with the calling me a hateful, unhappy person. It makes zero sense based on what I've posted. Just because I don't believe in god or an afterlife doesn't mean I'm not happy. People can have opinions and a desire to express them without being miserable. And FWIW, I only joined this post about one page ago, so if somebody earlier said something that offended you, it wasn't me.

If you just joined a page ago, then you weren't the one calling religion a "crock of shit" and "BS" DNS calling believers "pathetic."

Go back and read Atheist PP's posts, and then see if you still want to defend him. You can also rethink whether Atheist PP is a happy person with a fulfilling life.

I am the atheist who owns that post.

And I stand by it, too. Religion is a crock of shit. FWIW, I don't think humans are superior beings. We are flawed. Without religion, however - w/o this addiction to some form of control through fear - we will find the ability to self-manage.

without a soul, we would truly not be superior beings not better than a chicken or a worm. Which would make Hitler a neutral figure no worse than a person who eats animals or plants.

What you call a soul I call human nature. yin yang perhaps?

Hitler was a destructive force indeed. However, he was also shaped by his life's experiences, and he faced some difficult situations as a child. And while he was even a choir boy who took interest in becoming a priest at one point, he didn't continue to move in that direction. Apparently, religion wasn't "his thing" for very long.

So you really have demonstrated evidence of a soul at all.

At least I'm not convinced.

No. That's a nice straw man argument but doesn't jive with reality.

This makes no sense.

What good is a soul if it creates a Hitler?

You are claiming both men had souls.

don't know how forgiving you are - But I'd rather be drinking with MLK than with Hitler.

Absolutely fine! But then you also need to own the bit about being "hateful and unhappy" because a less hateful person would have used less hateful word choices. There are several of us who think your word choices, because they are unecessarily belligerent and hateful, qualify you for the "hateful" tag yourself.

^^^ PS. Obviously several of us have realized that there's no point debating you on the finer points of the afterlife, or on drinking with Hitler vs. MLK, because you don't want a debate. You just want to insult and snark. So we'll meet you where you are....

No - not hateful
simply blunt

Blunt and hateful are not synonymous.

I don't respect religious doctrine. And while I've made that clear, I've also provided some evidence to back up my claims. NDEs do not support an afterlife, for example. But there is brain research around them. Does the research address every aspect? of course not - But it often takes years to prove a theory.

But with religious people, the answer is always so easy. It's either an answer related to God/Jesus, or it's a biblical excerpt. And if you argue against it, the straw man comes out.

Perhaps now I'll call myself the Hateful Atheist Troll - or HAT for short.

as if anyone has any real knowledge about the afterlife -- better to be accurate and say "speculation about the afterlife" - like speculation about the existence of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Being blunt does not have to involve cursing. It's the cursing that makes you hateful. Hope you can see the difference!

Atheist, your bitterness and negativity is sad and unfortunate. You're everything I want to stay far away from. Unfortunately, your self-congratulatory manner tells me you have no idea of the ugliness you exhibit. I hope for the best for you.
