I'm not criticizing you, but I don't think you can be a minimalist if you do Botox. |

I'm the bi-coastal poster on the board. 2 weeks in DC. 2 weeks in LA. Here's my rundown...

| About $150. Pedicure/manicure every two weeks and eyebrow tinting every two weeks. I do my own hair and my make up last for close to 6 mos. so I don't include that as part of my monthly expenses |

This thread is interesting.
I'm 38. I spend about $83/mo on haircuts/highlights (about $1k/yr). I usually get one pedicure/yr for $50 and maybe a manicure or two $65. Drug store makeup and hair products, probably totaling $55/mo. I feel like I'm starting to look old, so I'm thinking about Botox and maybe some fillers. |

Hair, every three wks, $300. Cut & color
No facials and I do my own nails. Makeup - $200 a month at least. I am a makeup junkie and love trying new stuff. This is for makeup not skincare. Skincare, I spend $0 unless you count sunscreen and I use drugstore stuff whatever is on sale. |
[b] Wtf |
I'm the PP. What is there to "WTF" about? It comes with the territory in terms of what I do professionally and what I enjoy personally. I have zero debt. I have a ton of money in savings that I do not touch and own investment properties. I'm very responsible and I live well beneath my means. But looks mean A LOT in my line of work and I enjoy taking care of myself. (Also, I'm childless and single after a devastating miscarriage, so I'm only responsible for myself) |
New poster. I want to know what you look like! Bet you're gorgeous. I'm all for upkeep |
How do you only wear makeup to events? You sound like the type that would do a full face every day. (I don't mean that in a bad way). Where do you get your eyebrows shaped and the pain free wax? |
PP here. If I had both better skin and actual talent when it comes to putting on makeup, I would do it every day. But I have acne prone skin and I'm just terrible at doing my own makeup, so I skip it unless an event calls for it. By not wearing it every day though, and by sticking to a great skin-care routine, you'd never be able to tell I had terrible cystic acne growing up. It's done wonders for my skin. Eyebrow shaping / tinting and painless bikini wax I do at Anastasia Beverly Hills. I've been going there since before she / her brand blew up and she helped me regrow and reshape my brows after a disastrous waxing elsewhere, so I will only go there now. Truly talented eyebrow wizards work there. |
Thanks! I'm a dead ringer for Vanessa Marcil, who played Brenda Barrett on General Hospital. In another thread on DCUM, I shared a story about when she and I accidentally bumped into each other in Hawaii some years ago. We both did a double take because we couldn't believe the resemblance! |

I'm 55 and consider myself middle of the road when it comes to beauty upkeep:
Hair: I spend about $1000/yr on cuts and coloring at the salon. This also includes face framing highlights and Kerastase deep conditioning 4 times a year. Nails: I do the gel manicures 1-2x a month and a regular pedicure about 4 times/yr. I probably spend $750 annually. Waxing: bikini area maybe twice a year. I do my own lip wax and fortunately my brows don't need any upkeep. Clothes: I have fairly casual job (psychologist) so probably spend about $2500 a year. This includes shoes. Accessories: I'll splurge on the occasional bag. Maybe $300 a year? Makeup: combo of stuff from Sephora and CVS. Figure $100/month including hair products. Massage: I average one every 6 weeks. About $1200/yr. I don't do facials other than an occasional at home treatment. No Botox, fillers or dermatology yet. I'm blessed with decent skin. Gym Membership: Planet Fitness is only $200 annually. I also do yoga now and then. This costs maybe $200 a year. |
