PP here. Fenugreek is prohibited by the milk banks because it has not been tested on preemies in the NICU. They are very thorough with their testing before accepting milk, they send a plebotomist to your house to test your blood and do DNA testing. I think knowing all of his maks me uncomfortable with direct donations which have no quality checks. I'm not sure I would give my milk to my own child because it has been in the freezer since January. This is all very difficult. It think they need to find a way to make hypoallergenic formulas more palatable: |
Thanks for saying that pp - i guess more than anything doing best and worst case scenario - she isn't asking for money or prescription drugs or even formula - she's asking for bm which is honestly one thing money can't always buy especially on a holiday weekend. She's offered Starbucks to make people comfortable rather than asking for your home address. I mean I guess she could be selling bm on the open market, but that's about the fishiest thing she could be doing with these donations. |
OP. A couple of moms offered to drop off the milk and I was so tempted to accept that offer (but they were nowhere close to where I live). If they had dropped off and seen my house etc, they would have known I am not doing this for the money. I can't even imagine anyone (even the most financially needy mom) doing this for money. Mom, from whom milk was picked up yesterday thank you again (I know you LO couldn't use it since it wasn't dairy/soy free but know that my LO already had 22 oz since).
Anyway, we have picked only enough to last us this week. |
OP. Also I have more elecare than I need and had offered it on a thread last week. I am still planning to donate that and not sell it. |
When your baby's life is at stake, you smarten up and just use formula. (Heck, it's also not poison when baby's life ISN'T at stake).
I swear that some people would need Google or Internet forums to get out of a paper bag. |
Clearly your baby thrives on bm - Have you tried any if the liquid formulas? I've read some babies are allergic to powder and not liquid bc powder has corn in it. Can you call milk banks tomorrow and get a full time supply going? I think it would alleviate a lot of stress to just put her on bm- let her thrive - and continue diagnostic testing. A bank should be able to provide you enough once they open tomorrow? |
She violently rejects the formula FYI. Drinks like 9 oz and vomits it unlike BM |
I don't think anyone thinks you are doing this to make money. I think we are questioning why you are taking such a huge risk with untested breastmilk that could give your child diseases. For me personally it's hard to comprehend and I don't really want to contribute to this practice which I consider very risky, much more than a feeding tube. I know you want to trust that this milk is ok but this is an anonymous forum and you really have no idea what is in the milk you are feeding your child. There are a lot of crazy people out there, lactating mothers included. I pray for your child that the milk you are using is safe. |
You are an asshole. You also have no idea what this woman has been through. In the original thread she said she had tried every formula on the market. Her child continued to lose weight for two months before she considered breast milk donation, and only then did things start to turn around for her baby. I can't find the original thread, but I suspect you wouldn't be posting this nonsense if you had followed this woman's story from the beginning. |
Maybe give less than 9 oz? My baby never drank more than 3-4 oz of anything at a time. |
OP, what happened to your other thread? |
Her baby takes 9 oz A DAY! Not at once! |

I think this is OP too. The whole thing is horrible and so scary. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/357784.page |
Have you even read this thread or any of OP's previous threads? This all started when the OP weaned her baby off breast to give her formula (because she thought it would HELP the baby), but the baby rejected the formula and now OP's milk has dried up. |
